iphone announced tomorrow?

Not shipping in the US till june, EU till Q4 2007.

Pricing is to be $499 for a 4GB model, $599 for an 8GB with a 2 year contract. 2 Bloody years!?

Battery life is 5 hours for phone, video etc. 16 for music playback. Ie not long enough to do both jobs well enough for me. Pity.

The Treo might be big, but it's *tough* and has got about a zillion more programs written for it than anything Apple's got.

And where's the keyboard?

It's got wifi.:p

On the Apple web site its got lots of stuff.

Hey! Its got a multi touch display! There was a YouTube video displaying how those can be used.

Check this out, if you've not seen it before and techy inclined then this is an interesting demo of a multi touch screen.

I thought as much. Too pricey, too short battery and too small capacity. I'll buy one in 3 years.

Ah well, plenty of time to save up.

The Apple TV is on the UK site at £199 (vs US$299) and there's a new Airport Extreme with 802.11n for £119.

What we didn't get - release date or features for Leopard, new iLife or iWork, quad-core Macs, new casing on MacBook Pro. I'd imagine we'll get some of those over the next few days or weeks?

The iPhone will have some form of iCal for a calendar to match the full OS X one.

I'll be very interested to see how well the gesture interface works. From what I read the soft keyboard seemed to zoom in some fashion, possibly using the proximity sensors?

Yeah very cool vid that. Just done a quick look around at initial reaction, seems there's drooling going on. Not sure about the specs yet (didn't I see it aint out till July?!) but it is one nice piece of kit.

I reckon it'll be worth getting in a year or year and a half (remember how pricey the iPod Photo was when it first came out and how fast it dropped in price?)...

Regarding the Apple TV thing, does the following mean normal tube tv's wont work with it:

Widescreen (16:9) enhanced definition or high definition television with an HDMI, DVI, or component video input

It'll only work if you have a normal CRT TV with component input or HDMI, but very few CRTs do, only the higher end ones.

Can't really see the point of the Apple TV in the UK, given the poor selection of films etc on iTunes UK. I guess it'd make an okay streamer for stuff you've ripped/downloaded and a nice MP3 jukebox.

Yeah just read all that, meh, iptv is far off being something I'd want to watch on my tv so bugger it...

Interesting reaction from the market regarding the iPhone, seems it thinks Apple is onto a winner with this:

The latest hot gadget from Apple Computer, a multifunction wireless phone, appears to have caused a panic among investors in other wireless-device makers.

Stocks took a hit late Tuesday morning after Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone during his keynote address at the Macworld trade show in San Francisco.

Research In Motion, maker of the popular BlackBerry device, saw its shares slip following the news. The stock was last trading down more than 6% at $133.05.

Rival smart-phone maker Palm also dipped, giving up more than 5.3% to trade at $13.97.

Larger wireless-phone makers held their ground better. Motorola was last trading off 12 cents at 18.48. European phone giants Nokia and Ericsson were each trading down a percentage point by midday.

And here's the Apple website iPhone page: http://www.apple.com/iphone/

And it's crashed Firefox again.

And now it's a fucking 18 meg download to install it just so I can see Apple's web page.
Worst application *ever*

Cunts.

Hahahaha....

Check out the cheesy American demo of the phone call on iPhone

"Hi Gary it's Bob - you still up for a ride this afternoon?"
"Sure Bob - sounds cool dude - I'm still waiting to hear from Sydney"
"Hey wait..I've got Sydney on hold - hold on merging the calls"
"Hey guys"
"Hey Sydney"
"So there's a parking lot on 280 off pagemill road - we can hook up there and ride upto Woodside"
"Hey cool, that's a great ride"
"Yeah thats a great ride etc etc..."

iPhone. Genius. And my idea all along

Odd. It's working perfectly fine for me.

The installer has encountered an unexpected error....blah blah... The error code is 2803.

Apple *cunts*

Just to look at the site? Strange. Demo's work fine on my newly adopted Firefox... (finally gave up on Opera at the weekend...)

Let's go out in our cars, and then ride our bikes :D

Ed, I've never had an issue with quicktime plugin. I reckon it's your anger getting in the way of the electrons. Chillax, maaan :)

Erm ok...
Sorry but I fucking hate Quicktime. Three crashes, three error messages and endless fucking about. And then the installer tries to grab all the file defaults.

And now the cunting piece of shit is insisting that I have to restart the entire fucking system.

I reckon the screen's going to be the biggest issue with this. You're not going to want to just slip it in your pocket with your keys...

So you'll end up with people walking around with flip-cases that look like a paperback being held to their ear when making calls.

Still - the Safari browser looks brilliant in principle - full size web pages that you can easily zoom in and out on - great stuff.

Mind you, it wouldn't be difficult to trounce Windows Mobile 5 - possibly the worst implementation of any operating system I've had the misfortune to struggle with. - Gave up on my expensive Ipaq after about a month. Piece of shite! (Yeah, should have known etc etc).

Also, but most importantly - running OSX it'll bring a hell of a lot of people their first experience of the mac operating system, with resulting sales for macs.
