Most ISPs will set the lease to last for weeks or months, so the router would have to be turned off, the lease expired and someone else assigned the IP before it would change, that's why it is called a sticky dynamic IP, it sticks, grit.

When I first got cable (2001) with dynamic I just could not get the IP address to change no matter how many times I rebooted the bridge or disconnected it overnight. It's not a new concept

Fair enough, perhaps it was wrong to append LOL at the end. For the record I've never seen/had a DHCP lease from an ISP last more than a few days tops, however obviously that isint proof that its not the same for other users.

Anyway, it still doesnt change the fact that how DHCP leases are being referred to regarding the OP's mother's situation is flight of fantasy type stuff (as is the rest of this thread).
