Just had this vile advert come up, Yeah, I know art has always been big business but there's something about classifying certain works as 'Investment grade' that riles me. Waaaankers.
Apparently... "...the gallerist works symbiotically with the artists selling their artworks to collectors. Acting as a conduit they can change the course of art history through the work they choose to represent." BARF
some dreadful art being hawked in there, I used to cruise around it when i worked up west. terrible awful generic shite at silly prices.
There are artists and business people in the art business. And there are business minded artists (Hurst). It's all balls to me. Pretty pictures are just pretty pictures.
The fuckers cream the top off everything we do, commercialise and turn every human effort whether it is creative or artistic or skill or craft or labour and time into a fucking commodity to be reduced to £s and numbers and bought and sold as if the breadth of human experience and endeavour means little more than prospective £££ to be skimmed off the top of someone else's effort and ideas. Nothing is exempt. /rantfortheweek
