International Breaks Suck Cock.

It's the type of muppetry that I find more vomit inducing, namely "Our Wee Country" nationalism.

I think southern English get into the big tourneys more than northern English, for two reasons... a. the England team does tend to be disproportionately southern and b. In say London there are so many teams that it's only when the world cup's on that everyone kind of gets together to support one team

I don't get why anyone would support a team from a country, but then actively hate that country's national team. It's really odd.

A lot of Manchester United fans from England don't like the national side much.

It's not even that we hate the national side, infact we love some of the players, it's the whole jingoistic shite in the media that pisses off everyone.

That's just more of a club first country second thing. I mean people from Ireland or whatever, it just seems a bit disingenuous... I would look pretty stupid if I adopted Real Madrid as a team and then actively hated the Spain team.

Not saying I Think people should support England just because they support an ENglish club, I just don't get the hate the England team get...

Cos England are cunts. Plus if you look at a lot of the English teams Irish people support you will see a lot of Irish immigration to those cities with a shared ancestry, relatives living over there etc. Same with Scotland and supporting Celtic or Hibs etc.

Yeah but what if you were to support Barca?

:p

Also Manchester United have had a long tradition of Irish fans and players and their greatest eras have been under Scottish management.

Basically it's the Celts that have provided the backbone of English club success.

You're right, I was going to say Barca first and then thought hmm ;)

That said, when my mate visited Barca I had told him this thing about how they don't support Spain and he asked quite a lot of locals that and they said it wasn't really true, although Barca came first...

Putting club first isn't exclusive to the 'Big Four' as it goes - a lot of West Ham fans don't care much for England at all these days, although I think that's mostly because of feeling a bit gutted about the number of ex West Ham players in the squad...

I can't actually complain, you have to play against who you are given and in that half we were sluggish, poor and don't seem to know which way we are shooting

They're a bugger of a team to play against. Caused England a fair amount of bother.

When are English people going to realise that while the Warsaw pact left the East with woefully corrupt and underdeveloped economies, almost every single one of the bastards can complete a fantastically well disguised reverse through ball?

It must be the deep-set eyes, strong forehead and inscrutable aspect to them. Or they could just be pretty good at the game.

:D

I dunno though, despite the two qualifying games against Croatia last time around, who are a far bigger force, we've managed to beat them on a few other occasions (Euro 2004, that excellent recent 4-1 away, and a 3-1)

Macedonia are quite a tough team to play, they aren't a nancy team like Portugal...
