Intel Macbook Airport: unbearably slow

Tried removing the AppleAirPort.kext & AppleAirPort2.kext from System/Extensions and rebooted...

Booted up Transmission.

Waiting...

D/L'ing 8Kb, U/L'ing 10Kb...

...

Nah, a glimer of hope moving through a couple of pages of U75 and got cocky and went to www.ted.com and not a peep.

Switched Transmission off and a little better but not much improvement not considering Airport should be able to cope with up to 54Mb of bandwidth...

UPDATE: We got a shiny new wireless router, some D-Link job, and the wireless internet on my MB is now fast (8Mb/sec), as it should be. Hooray. Or so I thought...
The fucking computer now just drops the connection, seemingly at random, every so often (several times per day)!
So, we're nearly there, router compatibility issues/crap router appears to have been part of the cause, but the dropped connection thing is something many people have had (on the basis of reading other forums anyway).
Why can't Apple just admit they've cocked something up and put out a patch ASAP instead of leaving us all hanging for the 400MB download that will be 10.5.2?

I have been having it too on my Intel iMac - thankfully the router is just under the table, so I just plugged it in, job done. It started a couple of months ago rather out of the blue. Didn't happen with Tiger at all.

My PPC Powerbook, though, doesn't have that problem at all, both of them running Leopard.

Is the problem all the time, or just when on battery power..? I'm a bit concerned about this as I have a MacBook on order... (Powerbook took a bashing on a recent journey and the trackpad no longer works...)

Nope - my connection is very tempremental. It's been ok for about five days but still occasionally drops out. I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the software but I'm too lazy to troubleshoot it atm. Downloaded loads over the weekend, my flatmate told me where an ethernet cable was so next time it screws up I'll be hooking up with that to see what difference it makes.

The 10.5.2 OSX update is out - which specifically includes airport fixes. Fingers crossed...

Nice - stacks are a bit more configurable (though I think I'l stick with current 'look'). I can't find a full list of fixes - anyone else had any luck?

The 10.5.2 update sorted out (I hope for good this time) a problem I was having with my Macbook airport disconnecting when inactive for a minute or so.

I installed it last night - forgot to backup first - or check privileges, but it all went swimmingly - boots up a couple of times during installation.

Reassuring! However, due to my intermittent internet connection (:D   ) it didn't download automatically overnight. I shall have to waste time tonight fixing it.

Right, installed it, my internet is now massively fast again (just got a torrent running at 700kB/sec) and the connection is stable. Thank fuck for that.

That's good to hear...! :D Good to see Apple listening to feedback for once...

Just downloading the latest Security Update 2008-001(Universal) for Tiger....anyone else D/L'd this with an effect on Airport.

I'll give it some time. :)

Before it was a combo of poo ISP & Airport conflicts/probs so it could be now that its my ISP throttling the bandwidth.

:p

I know the fix was in place for Leopard.

 So have you tried the update or not...? If it doesn't work for you should let other people (and Apple) know so they can try and help you...
