Intel Mac users can now run XP -officially!

The question is, would Apple actively market this new feature to potential Apple hardware buyers, or is this something purely for those geeks in the know?

No great surprise there then. But fairplay to Apple - they're stacking up the extra features in Leopard just as the Windows team seems to be stuffing up Vista.

Windows running on a Mac is like Windows running on a PC. That means it’ll be subject to the same attacks that plague the Windows world. So be sure to keep it updated with the latest Microsoft Windows security fixes.

:D

That's that settled then. My next computer will be an intel powermac. And I'll buy a fairly low-end one too, and beef it up with my own parts.

I was gonna buy a Vaio to do my SQL Server/ASP development work, but I don't think I 'll bother now.

Well... Personally I'd wait for Apple to solve their multi-threading implementation problems. But as a development laptop I can't see how this could be beaten...!

What next, Apple make mice with *two* buttons...? :)

four buttons and a 4-way scroll button (I use one at work) its very nice though the scroll button is a bit small - but its velocity sensitive (something I've always liked about mac mice).

Woohoo! Utopia at last!

*awaits a deluge of Mac Zealots freaking out*
:D :D :D

Erm, why would 'mac zealots' get freaked out by the prospect of running XP on a partition of their machine? It's not as though there are hordes of macheads turned on by the Fisher Price dog's dinner of XP, or salivating at the prospect of Vista. It's just an optional extra - something for nothing.

Sometime Kid E, your attempts at a little wind-uppery are a little too transparent...

:p

Has anyone managed to get the Mac OS running on a windoze machine yet?

Yup, fully native booting on my athlon system. No network drivers though, so it's totally useless :)

As are yours, I'm afraid.

"Fisher Price dog's dinner of XP, " indeed.

Come on. Let's not go down this route again.

There is no doubt that regardless of what people think of OS X or Apple, this is a pretty cool move on their part.

Got you to respond didn’t it? Anyway, don’t you think it’s rather ironic you calling XP Fisher Price? Apple are the machines known for being easy to use and requiring virtually no tech savvy (where as PCs are a fucking nightmare at times)! :p

Without doubt, all they have to do now is get rid of their extortionate pricing and my next machine might be an Apple…

Fairy nuff. I plead provocation m'lord. I'm typing this on IE on XP after all. And the Fisher Price jibe isn't about ease of use for a second (who the fuck needs ease of use on a primary school toy!) - it's about the noddyesque colouring and jokey/unnecessary wizards. Once you change the presets XP is a lot more palatable.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present Microsoft's Comic Sans font. Oh the horror.

Using IE on Xp I'd be going for an insanity plead rather than provocation  :p :D

Welcome to the corporate network.

Thank christ the IT bods, all MCSE trained and lacking in common sense, can't figure out how to use macs and restrict access without Microsoft certified guides.

As a handy update, some speculation now exists that claims that since Apple's solutuion runs BIOS, which Vista will need, this Boot Camp software will also run Vista, which makes sense. Just thought that notion was worth a ponder.

not really. It's my nerd hobby and I'm proud of it (ish). In real life I won money a couple of weeks ago at the cardiff GP. $250!!

Oh dear. Heh, no worries I’ve the same background in that game (it’s embarrassing how much money I used to spend on it!) and I admit I’m a little tempted to get it to play online too. :o :o :o
