Slightly unfortunate phrasing....

and technically they were from Oldham, not Manchester (Inspiral Carpets, not Nirvana). Important difference if you're ever in Oldham and don't want to get your head kicked in.

My course mate is from Oldham and he considers himself a Manc. :hmm:

one of my fave bands for years, got loads of it on vinyl
Inspiral Carpets are one of the most melodic, full-on, singalong, anthemic bands of all time and certainly of that era.

I loved the Happy Mondays/Roses (I was going to say The Farm but I think they were earlier) but cannot begin to describe the upliftingness of 'She Comes In The Fall', 'This is how it feels to be lonely' 'How It Should Be' et al.

If you haven't heard and appreciated 'The Beat Inside' you haven't lived. :D

They're one of my all time favourite bands.

They had a really shit band name though. :D
very much agree with that  as fook
they were in there with the t-shirts

oh ai, had one of them, prob a bootleg when we did trip to gmex to see them.

what's the tune with the penguin on the front?

that album they did which was yellow and orange and was like 70s rock was great

it was after they were part of that pillheads with bowlcuts thing i think, and much better

i liked em

I'm goin down
In uniform

One of my faves back in the day, still get a kick out of them now.

Went to the reunion gigs the other year - had a fucking ball.

Haterz can get te fuck.

(weird that I can't actually find a thread on them by me here - I swear I posted one when the gig was coming up... )

I've bought their boxset (with the best-of, rarities and DVD) and love it, but can't be arsed with their albums.

Top Band. Top organ sounds.

I saw them once, they were a surprise guests supporting Carter USM at Brixton Academy. Although at the time they were bigger than Carter.

I can believe that electrogirl know the full name of minor Big Brother contestants, yet she hasn't heard of the Inspirals.

Surprised no-one has mentioned the legendary Cool as Fuck T-shirt, which I can't find on Google Image.

I always thought Tom thingy was trying a bit too hard. The Inspirals were the band with no attitude and didn't have the appeal of The Mondays or The Roses. All a bit too clean. They were probably to blame for bands like The Mock Turtles and Shed 7.

There was loads better than IC from Oldham, Paris Angels for one.

Band of the moment for me was always New Fast Automatic Daffodils. Saw some top gigs of theirs.

In fact if anyone has their album I'd really appreciate a download:cool:

I got a credit on one of their albums. Think it was this one:

Fence-sitting for me. A few good songs, but I could never get really excited about them as a band. Mind you, I feel the same about the Stone Roses.

Abysmal. Whatever your view of Nirvana, you have to admit that they were absolutely essential in blowing away the tepid drollery of the poor end of Madchester represented by the Inspirals et al

Lol. You hear this sort of guff from deluded Nirvana fans so much. They killed metal. They killed this, they killed that...

How is your hero? Any good songs recently?

:D

Pretty crap but I did like plane crash and I want you would have been awesome if that inspirals singer left Mark E Smith to the singing.
