Insenstivive kitchen scales

It is a bit sad to be so bad :( :p at cooking that you feel the need to weigh out your garlic and ginger to begin with anyway Hollis. :o

Sorry. :(

An inch of ginger is plenty imo (an oz sounds a bit much to me), a few cloves of garlic.....and ofcourse you'd want to sweat them off  for a while first (I wonder if that was your mistake actually - raw ginger/garlic are very different things to cooked..... :( ).

((((((((( Hollis ))))))))))

((((((((( Hollis's soup )))))))))))

Fry them very gently, so they don't brown, but cook a little before you add your stock - takes away the harshness :) ......you know what I mean by the harshness now don't you Hollis? :(

yes yes.. the garlic was fried for 10 minutes, the ginger was admittedly put in abit late.

Although you know what.....perhaps you have something with the curry foundation idea...... ......as a base for a curry that's going to cook for a fair while, you can whizz up fresh ginger/garlic/onion which you'd expect to cook enough in the sauce to get rid of the raw taste as the curry cooked....so maybe your soup would work in much the same way!

You could sweat off ;) an onion and then add a good portion of your soup along with the meat/ any other veg you fancied adding and let it cook slowly and see what happens?

It might just work!

For fucks sake, if you'd told me that before, instead of blindly repeating yourself for five minutes, I'd have saved myself the bother of writing out the last post.

Err there another tub in the fridge.

Ah go on then - give it a try! :D

Let's do an experiment Hollis!

Forgot to say - you'll want to add your spices once the onion's cooked and let them cook out a bit, but then bung in your soup :( and some meat and veg and away you go!

Go on!

The Great Kitchen Scales Heist!

Go for it, i did the same at ikea with a set of halogen lights i managed to 'blow up' worked even with my friend laughing behind me and saying rather loud you will never get away with it :D

Waheyyy on the curry Hollis... :D ...although rather scarily, the idea was all yours!

marco - am off to Argos right now, to put the first part of the plan in action...... ;) ;)

Both Ginger and Garlic can be had in little bottles ready chopped up in vinegar called 'Very Lazy Ginger' etc. Use about a teaspoonful of this and taste it to see how strong it is then add more or not as the case may be and make a note for next time.

If you still need to turn it into a curry then you can also get 'Very Lazy Chilli'.

Hocus

Oh Hocus!

<tuts and shakes head at Hocus  >

Part two of The Great Scales Heist was put into action today btw......mission complete - Thankyou Argos! ;) ;)
