Sorry but i deal with benefit claimants and people walking through the door saying "I heard off so and so that....." is often the precursor to them taking some form of action that completely fucks up their claim. That's why i get a bit annoyed when people post things that aren't just wrong but potentially can cause people to be convicted, fined and in the most extreme cases, imprisoned. Peace

Of course you've had the good of it - you previously spent what you didn't have and got into debt, and then by a stroke of luck you've been able to pay it off, thereby avoiding paying interest on your debt and possibly also avoiding legal action and any subsequent penalties. Millions of people are not so lucky and would love to be able to escape their debts so easily.

Can I just point out that it's possible to find yourself in pretty substantial debt but not by 'spending' money you don't have. You can start off with a 5k loan to buy a vehicle and within 5 years find yourself owing the bank 17k through various charges and penalties and not actually having bought anything.

I'm fed up with this attitude we have in the UK that if someone is in debt they must have spent it all on holidays, gadgets and things they can't afford. Some people suffer sheer bad luck of circumstances and with the cost of living shooting through the roof whilst incomes remain fairly static it can only get worse

no it's not other wise you'd pay income tax not captial gains tax on it.
