Inexcusably shit radio. The definitive list.

End of thread.

Fucking Just A Minute. It makes my teeth itch.
It's funny - that's the last show remaining of half a dozen I grew up with in the 60s and 70s - more innocent times .... but I too can't listen to it these days, ditto Desert Island Discs. I rarely dip into the Archers these days either - maybe it's the "modernisation" that started around about the time Elizabeth got mixed up with the first "Dirty Den" character Cameron Fraser in 1992 (Brian doesn't count).

I like Count Arthur Strong.

I also hate Steve Wright in the afternoon, although I can't help listening to it. It's like picking a scab, but I think i listen because there's nothing worth listening too on R4 at that time, and i'm starting to count the hours until I leave work.

Jo Caufield though, whenever she pops up on R4 - Christ she's terrible.

Can't stand Steve Wright either. He's a prize fucking cunt with his fucking in-studio whooping and 'big rounds of applause' and all the constant fucking "Hi Steve love the show..." dedications.

Here's a factoid - Steve Wright, and all he stands for, is genetically equivalent to a puddle of swoony arse piss

That bell-end Iain Lee on Virgin on Sunday. "oh listen to me being rude to people,i'm so outrageous". I thought this kind of shock-jock shite went out of fashion about 8 years ago?

There's also "Go For It" on R4. Yes, I know it's supposed to be a kids' program, but I'm taking that into account.

The trouble with plays on Radio 4 is that they are generally performed by people with terrific voices, so they invite a certain amount of attention just by being audible; you start to convince yourself that it's going to get interesting eventually, surely, but an hour later you realise that it's just finished and nothing happened that you cared about in the slightest. Also, the good ones start off sounding pretty much the same as the bad ones.

Count Arthur Strong is crap by the way.

Still, it's all a lot better than Radio London.

That actually put me going to the theater for a while. Saw a play along the Charing X Road. Suddenly realised that 30 mins had gone....remember all of those "ghastly" plays on R4.

Open Treo... started pseudo coding.

Also, I actually like the Now Show

The Now Show, Nearly every Radio 4 play, Moneybox, You and Yours, Thought for the Day, Go for it!, The Archers, Loose ends and anything with Mark Lawson or Clive's Anderson or James on.

All utter shite.

I think that only leaves the news quiz and the shipping forecast.

Desert Island Disc is sometimes good and is much improved with the departure of Sue 'Stuck up Tory Bint' Lawley.

Don't hold back, now :)

George Motherfucking Lamb - who I am listening now 'cos now we listen to music in the office.
All daytime Radio One DJs and most of the night time ones are pretty much up their own arse.
Jo Whiley for being a complete fake.
Nemone isn't much cop either.
Victoria Derbyshire for being the most awful walking talking version of a tabloid..

I agree about the Radio 4 plays but I quite like thought for the day... its interesting, especially when they get a buddist or an aethist on.

Shit radio - the antidote today

BBC 7

Midday, today

Hancock's Half Hour

Hancock in Hospital: Hancock has been in hospital for three weeks and not had a single visitor. Then Bill and Sid arrive. From December 1959.

Yes, it is 49 years old.

No, it is not shite.

:)

The Organist Entertains. Nobody under the age of 70 listens to it. Ditto "Friday Night is Music Night".

If I'm listening to Maconie and Radcliffe and forget to turn the radio off immediately at 10.00 I sometimes have to endure up to several seconds of this programme while rushing to turn it off. Especially if I'm in the bath.

Or, some more recent genius from Andy Hamilton :-

22:30-23:00
Old Harry's Game
The Beautiful Game: Satan decides to host a major football tournament - the Underworld Cup. Episode 5 of 6. [Rptd Wed 3.30am].

Andy Hamilton is a radio god :)

Hate hate hate Money Box live- who are these bastard people that ring in about their sodding ISAs?? Die, scum.

But I will defend The Archers and the Afternoon Play to the bitter end.

You and Yours and the Moral Maze make me want to explode with general anger, and Any Questions / Any Answers often makes me despair. Hardly ever listen to the afternoon plays but not hugely impressed by the few I've managed to catch

To be fair, Ms T that is the audience that the show is aimed at.

There are nearly as many 70 plus in the country as 15-24 year olds, and the latter group have 2 BBC networks (1 and 1xtra) plus several commercial stations aimed more or less soley at them.

Over 70s actually get very little of their music on air, BBC locals rarely play music from before 1960, and the Smooth network (formed from the ashes of Saga FM) doesn't play much before 1965, and much of it is more recent than that.
