Indisputable Facts of Music

The Beatles are the most over-rated band ever.

John Lennon was a talentless cunt.

So is his son.

Imagine is the worst dirge ever recorded by several light years.

Mull of Kintyre is second worst.

Paul Weller is a knob who records dismal dad rock.

I dispute all of these facts, OK maybe not Paul Weller :)

Beatles

I bow to your superior aesthetic judgement :)

Seriously, I think you had to be around at the time to appreciate their place in music. They were a seriously groundbreaking band. Listen to the charts of, say, early 1965 and there isn't much doubt IMO that the Beatles' offering (I Feel Fine) was head and shoulders above anything else at the time.

Comparing them with, say, Radiohead or Coldplay isn't really fair. Could those bands have produced the albums they did if they'd been around back then, with no previous or contemporary examples of in-house songwriting to draw on? I doubt it.

there are any number of far superior acts active in 1965. I couldn't give a badger's cock if they were in the the charts or not.

Here's a list of some UK number ones from 1965 that were better than I Feel Fine

Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames Yeh Yeh

Kinks Tired Of Waiting For You

Rolling Stones The Last Time

Unit Four Plus Two Concrete & Clay

Roger Miller King Of The Road

Sandie Shaw Long Live Love

Elvis Presley Crying In The Chapel

Byrds Mr Tambourine Man

Rolling Stones (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

Walker Brothers Make It Easy On Yourself

Rolling Stones Get Off Of My Cloud

and that, as i say, is just the number ones.

The Monks for one. 'The anti-beatles'.

I just knew this thread would get overtaken by those fucken four twats from Liverpool again.

Look, their days are over. They've been getting beaten of late by dead Elvis (more number ones in the UK), a computer company (fuck yer corps) and a one-legged ex-glamour model (more monmey than Yoko Ono).

There is only one indisputable fact about music: there are NO indisputable facts about music, as this thread had proven

well, on reflection, the only indisputable facts about music, are made up of sociological facts, like the rave scene being last musical movement to cause a change in the law, or statistical facts, like best selling album of 1972, etc

actually the rave thing might not be true...

How about...

"Grant McLennan was a talented fella who'll be sorely missed, and it's a mystery why the Go-Betweens aren't better known."

Any takers? :D

Drummers always get the fewest groupies.

That's technically true, but there is a caveat - the drummer is often the easiest to talk to, and so groupies often use the drummer as a medium for approaching their true target, ie the singer or guitarist.

Barbra Streisand craps all over* Celine Dion.

*Oz (or perhaps just Oz inmate ;) ) parlance for is far superior to :p
