Bohemian Rhapsody: no matter how cheesy/shit you think it is, its still the greatest song to sing along to when drunk

well, almost right, but i'd put american pie ahead of that in the singalonga stakes

teenage kicks by the undertones - the perfect pop single:cool:

Some highly notable exceptions...

It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back

Paul's Boutique

King Of Rock

Done By The Forces Of Nature

The Low End Theory

IMO, all superior second albums! :)
I'll give you the first one. I don't like the second, or any of their stuff and don't know the thrid and fourth. The Low End, despite having a great opening song, was pallid compared to People's Instinctive...

ah, but i've seen him laugh on stage, turn Gloria into a song about elocution lessons (I kid you not) and giggle at a stage invasion, so he's not ALWAYS miserable

PE - It Takes a Nation of Millions...? Better than Yo Bum Rush the Show IMO.
I refer the honourable member to the answer I gave some moments ago.

hmm.. it's quite tricky this. I can think of a few generally common, but not universal laws:

A song an artist is most known and popular for is often one that they either didn't write or didn't like.

damn you dub:mad:

i've seen him about half a dozen times and not a smile in any of them, once saw him drinking on his own in a pub in bath, he looked miserable then as well

oh, he's almost invariably a miserable cunt, but it makes it all that more special when he grins.

the Gloria thing was astonishing - we were at Glastonbury (94, maybe?) and he was doing Gloria and it was like

"and i went up to her room.. and she gave me.. Elocution lessons... and she went "G" (and then all the band, in a completely OTT way, shouted "Gee-Uh"), "Ell-Uh" etc

hysterical

were that true why are the charts so full of utter fucking shit then?

have you looked at the charts in other countries? and do you gauge the worth or otherwise of a country's musical output by its pop charts?

Most guitar based bands will cite one of the following as influence:

Velvet Underground
Alex Chilton

For example, you may hate ABBA, but you have to concede that they were great pop songwriters.
.
I heard Danny Baker play "Super Trooper" the other day and I've not been the same since - stupid thing is still soo-pa-pa, troo-pa-pa-ping in my head.
What where they on?
