That reminds me - I used to jump up and down a lot to Six Pack too.
<sighs> memories!
In Leeds, we had The Chocolate Factory on Fridays, which was more dance-friendly.
On Saturdays, we had Le Phonographique - a tiny little box in a monstrosity of a modern shopping centre. It had a postage stamp dancefloor with a great big pillar right in the middle of it. It catered for all the subcultures - so we'd have a section for the goths where we'd hear the like of Alice and Enjoy The Silence, then we'd have DKs and Black Flag and all that west coast hardcore for the punks. We'd even have shit like LA Guns for the glam rockers! They'd even play No Rest For The Wicked or 51st State for the cloggy twats. Lots of indie anthems too for the uncommitted. Le Phono was even open on Saturday afternoons so the denizens could compare tie-died tassly skirts and new tats over a snakebite and black.

Heh. I was at the Phono at least three nights a week at the start of the 90s. Stumbling out into the Merrion centre on a saturday afternoon was always a joy. Monday was the hardcore goth night, and tuesdays was indie but the rest is a blur really apart from the astonishingly rank carpets and the VILEST toilets in club history. It had a refit a few years ago, but as far as I know it's still open.
The Chocolate factory was ace and was sadly missed when it closed.
The Pig and Whistle is now an outpost of Manchester's F.A.B. bar/cafe that should be good but isn't.

Aw I used to love the phono and their vodka ice poles for £1 :)
I've banged into that mirrored pillar in the middle of the dancefloor on a few occasions, and probably tried to start a fight with reflection too. They did eventually improve the toilets so that they were bigger, but they were still as rank. Reminds me of dancing to Dead or Alive while smashed on vodka and irn bru :D

i guess only the rev and i remember the island in ilford and their alcatraz / supersonic nights? or coma at hollywoods in romford...

In the early 90s I spent many a happy late teenage night in the KU club in Sunderland which seem to be forever playing older records like.....

Stones- Sympathy for the Devil
Don Maclean- American Pie
Steelers Wheel- Stuck in the middle
Beatles- Paperback writer/Taxman (which mixed perfectly into)
Jam- Start
?- Devil went down to Georgia

....as well as the usual Britpop suspects and the odd bit of grunge. They also used to play 'Take That' for a laugh. Quid in, quid a pint (no really! you could actually have a night out for a fiver!) Apparently the place is still there- at least it is still in the phone book

I also used to make the trek to Newcastle Mayfair(and walk home!) for more rocky fare. That venue was knocked down a few years ago IIRC

Keep meaning to get a cheap train ticket up but I'm now (as the song goes) "too old to rock and roll, too young to die" :D
