Indian Veg - Angel

Best place for a pre-night out/post work cheap filling dinner as far as I'm concerned.

Not the fanciest food, but fills you up and tastes nice. :)

I've actually taken hardcore carnivores there only for them to turn round at the end and say, rather bemusedly, "that was really really good"

Also, we took an intern there to train him on curry - poor dear didn't eat it before - and he actually found it hot!

(He's nearly better now, poor dear. We'll take him somewhere spicy next time)

That'll be the fat.

I dont usually go to Indians as its never as good as my mums, but then its been so long since I've eaten a decent curry I doubt I'll notice. Mines usually come out of a jar :o

Well, if it's Patak's or Geeta's it's obviously being made in large quantity, but still might have a certain ... real-ness to it...

I love the place, although limit visits to about once every six months. You always feel a bit guilty afterwards and certainly don't need to eat for the next twelve hours. A meal at 3pm sets you up for the rest of the day (and evening.)

I usually end up justing giving yer man a fiver and then walking away. You pay what you think it was worth, yes?

Why do you fel guilty?

Unless its really crappy quality I dont see how they could be making much profit on £2.95 all you can eat stuff...

Isnt it true that the majority of all you can eat places rely on the over pricedness of their drinks to make a large part of their money? Thats why alot of them dont serve tap water and charge £2 for a glass of coke that either came out of a can (half) or is made out of shitty syrup...

Most restaurants make a hefty part of their profit from the drinks.

Clearly.

Although I would have thought all you can eat places, esp ones that have such a low price would rely more heavily on the income from the drinks sales than others. :)

The place has always given me the impression that they're not particularly into profit. Probably due to all the slogans on the walls, wouldn't surprise me if some charitable trust is behind the place as it's such an oddity.
If you feel the food's worth more than £2.95, you can always donate some more to their charity box on the counter to help pay for cateract operations in India.

It's a family-run place, I understand; one of the chaps was bemoaning to us that his sons weren't that bothered about taking it over...

Plus, I've seen your local beggar come in and beg at the counter - they nip over to the buffet and do them a takeaway...

If you fuck off the all you can eat meal, their masala dosas are* pretty fab. :)

*or were anyway - I probably haven't been for 8 years or so mind

Such low expectations (shakes head sadly.)

Look we all know there are curry places, including specifically veggie ones, that are fabuloso and brilliant. Including in West Yorks!!

But the two categories aren't mutually exclusive .. you're going to Indian Veg for a cheap and tasty and good slap up fill up for a very moderate price

:)

I agree cheap and cheerful, filled my tummy! Wouldnt make a special trip to go there but would recommend it for a quick cheap bite. Indian Veg gets a thumbs up! :)

Oh and they do have a picture of Ashwaria Rai on the wall :D

I too haven't been for 7 or 8 years when I lived round there, but I have fond memories of sitting on the steps of sainsburys barely able to move. Tended to be on the greasy side though

Glad you rated it!

Would only go there on a special trip towards the Mucky Pup or the Wenlock Arms or somesuch!! :p :D

Just got back to visit my rentals for a few days. My mums making keema with potato and kidney beans curry for dinner tomorrow, my fave! It's gona piss all over Indian Veg and its free, woohoo!

I love my mum! :D

I do sometimes suspect they have a captive hoard of Oompah Loompas in the basement or something though. I mean, has anyone ever seen the kitchens? You hear the bloke shouting really sharply down the dumb waiter shaft and the new food just appears. Creepy.

Last night me and a good mate were discussing the calorific value of an Inidian Veg meal.. we figure its in the 1000+ range..

I used to go there all the time Monday lunchtimes to ease the hangover.. etc.

you don't have to empty every vat in the place you know. It's optional. :D

It's eat as much as you like, not eat as much as you can. ;)

There was an indian buffet place on Turnpike Lane once where the sign said, rather ominously, "eat as much as you can". We once asked if we could leave before being absolutely stuffed, and got really strange looks from the staff...

Wise to ask.. whole place could have been a trap room where the door slammed shut behind you and the monsters came out with shovels...
