Indian delivery in Brixton

It's amazing how much one bad experience can colour your view of a place though, that and the bad wine they give out from Curry Paradise. It's bad enough realising how many curries you've, it's another thing to store or force yourself to drink all those vinegary mementos of meals past.

MO's recent experience of Gousia sounds pretty bad. In mitigation they've only had a duff couple of dishes in all the times I've used them. And they were once surprisingly effective when they forgot the chapatis off our order - they went back to base and collected some for us fairly quickly.
.

Yeah we've used them quite often and they've always been fine until last week, not sure what happened there. Their food is definitely better than the chutney though. Still, we might be back to Dial-A-Curry next time we want one.

The wine from Bombay Inn/Curry Paradise varies.

On the last few occasions CP haven't had wine so they've sent a big bottle of Cobra instead. Once they sent a really nice bottle of that Ernest and Julio stuff...

However, more normally it's the same bottles that we tend to buy regularly which cost £5 for 2 in the local shop - but we're not exactly wine conoisseurs... :D

Another vote for Dial a Curry on Half Moon Lane.

They have a mission statement for goodness sake! When I last got food from them a few weeks ago, I ordered some onion bhajies (sp) and asked for enough for two hungry people. They sent us 6! and only charged for two.

Yum

Well I tried Gousia last night as I could find the menu online. The food was excellent and it was delivered in half an hour. Thanks for all the help

My experience of Gousia (stretching back a long long time) has been good. They've made a mistake only twice out of many many many meals. One time we didn't even notice, but next time we got a takeaway they pointed out their previous mistake and gave us a load of free food....and they give us a Christmas card and calendar every year!

Ha! I got a Christmas card (and a keyring!) from Gousia one year.

I was living directly opposite them at the time.. :o

They've just changed their menu for the first time in about 5 years, coinciding with MGOs bad experience.

Do hope they haven't changed ownership..

I got a fake leather address book type thing from Dial A Curry last year.

You know, the sort of thing you'd see in a B&B like visitors book :D

ooh.. where's the online menu? If they've just changed it I'd like to take a look and see if they've got any new exciting veggie dishes.

Heh. Did you get the famous 'special' Christmas Card though? It's said Happy Christmas from Gousia in small text on the outside and was entirely blank on the inside. Good work!

The new Sylvanian family specialities sound good too. I particularly like the Rosul Gongi Shabjee - cucumber 'reeked' with peas, potatoes,, tomatoes and...

:D

Tried Gousia for the first time this evening – my tandoori masala was very tasty and it turned up reasonably quickly. Will be using them again

Beware of the spelling mistakes on Gousia's menu though...I got something that said it contained "fresh green spices" when actually they meant "fresh greens & spices" and I fucking hate spinach

Clapham Tandoori, tried all the local joints and this beats them hands down.

Wifey just got handed one of their leaflets outside Oval Tube by a polite gentleman and reading it makes me really, really, really..... WANT CURRY NOW!!

Must resist tasty looking curry delivered to my door.
Can't afford curry even on their £7.30 before 7:30 offer comprising a main, side and rice or naan for only £7.30 delivered. In fact there are still just over 20 minutes before the tasty goodness of this special offer window passes......

20 tasty minutes :(

Bombay Inn is ok, just don't order the really tough lamb.

Chutney, Gousia or Curry Paradise.

or go long... Bombay Bicycle. :)

Khan's delivered some average food to us on Friday evening. Was disappointing as I've eaten in there before and it was nice.

I think I'll go back to Oval Tandoori (used to be The Old Calcutta) on Brixton Rd in future.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Zest of India at Loughborough Junction is the nads. Not literally, like; not unless you get the special menu.

Seriously though - IMO the best of the curry delivery places round here.

Bombay Inn are friendly and fairly quick...food is good too
once they forgot the mint sauce for poppadoms which is a fairly big component and they came back with more poppadims and extra sauce.
have eaten ina few times there also and they gave us a free box of chocs to take home

curry paradise is also good food but not as good value

Kahns are decent but i find their service poor. took 30mins to sort our food once and we were picking it up...they didn't even apologise and as such i will not go back...brap!

The last two deliveries we've had from Gousia have been disappointing which is sad because they've been good for a long time....

Anyway, we tried a random "through the letterbox" menu from a place called Poppadom and the food took an hour and a half to come which was crap "it's on it's way, be there in 10 minutes" (my arse) but was very nice indeed when it did so will be trying them again. I think it's in Norwood but not sure.

If its the one I'm thinking of its on Camberwell New Road - http://www.pappadomindian.co.uk/

I reckon its one of the best around with a variety of dishes, many not seen elsewhere, and as its takeaway only I always thought they should be able to get it out quicker (but having said that I have always picked up the takeaway as its close to me so have had no experience of its delivery)

Poppadom do a wicked £10 meal that is enough for 2...you get loads

however everytime we have ordered from there it takes around an hour, standard.

BUMP!

Anyone familair with the New Diwanian on Camberwell New Road? We had a menu through the door this week and they have tempted us with their wares!

A vote for Khan's. I've found them to be consistently good over a five-year period. They do get in a right flap if they're even remotely busy, but the people in there are friendly so I always forgive them.

Highlights for me include the lamb shashlic (sp?), the chana puri and the vegetable dhansak.

Equidistant for me is Curry Paradise on Brixton Road. It always smells nice when I walk past there, but that could just be cos I'm hungry. Other posters' reports of free wine make me a little suspicious - but should I give it a try anyway?

God, I'm starving now - thanks

Its a very flash premises - bright and airy and with chandeliers, totally different to your standard Indian.

We've had a few takeaways from New Dewanian and also eaten in the restaurant.

Takeaways are reasonable but a bit variable in terms of delivery times - they do get very busy delivering especially on Friday and Saturday nights (but then its probably true of all Indians!). Also the food at times can seem a bit oily.

And we have given up eating in as again we had to wait too long once too many times.

I tend to choose Poppadom or Safa on Camberwell Church Street over New Dewanian every time.
