independence for Greenland?

Imagine how fucked up such a referendum would be. Social media will be spewing out shite like if they don’t join America they’ll have to let 40 million Turks live there because of the EU etc. Democracy doesn’t operate in a vacuum (and never has)

If a choice between Denmark and the U.S. is put to Greenland’s voters, that’s happened before

The people of Greenland, who are already independent, should vote on it
I’m talking about the exploitation of that area for mineral and fossil fuel resources.
The joke in Denmark is you can probably take it for a case of carlsberg. Due to the way they exploited the fact the indigenous population lack the enzyme to break down alcohol. They even have a term for it. Greenlander Drunk

They aren't independent they have internal autonomy but are subservient to the Danish state.
If you would explain that, I'd be greatly appreciative

My understanding is that Greenland is independent and autonomous, and only remains voluntarily within the " Danish Commonwealth"
Are you saying Greenland would need Denmark's "permission" to become a territory of USA?

As far as I can make out Denmark still retains control of foreign relations, defence, and currency matters for Greenland; the first 2 appearing crucial to any US aspirations.

I guess if one were to take a totally cynical approach, there is nothing to stop Greenland from choosing to "join" the US

Trump will be gone in 4 years or less.
Denmark's parasitic royalty will be there as long the danish, but hopefully not the Greenlander, people keep bootlicking their inbreeding overlords

It's not just Trump. It's the whole of your rotten system, where corruption is rewarded, health is a privilege, and cops can legally shoot people based on their skin colour.
America is a shithole
And Denmark is better?
A smattering of Danih police brutality. As you'll agree most incidents are unreported

  • In 2002, 21-year-old Jens Arne Orskov Mathiason died while in police custody on the way to prison.[122] The incident raised concerns over the behaviour of the officers involved, the thoroughness of the subsequent investigation, and the willingness of the Director of Public Prosecutions to hold the officers accountable for their alleged failings. As a result, Amnesty International called for the establishment of new policies to investigate human rights violations and enforce compliance under the European Convention on Human Rights.[123]
  • In January 2016, a man died in police custody after being arrested by seven Copenhagen Police officers.[124]
  • In August 2009, police in Copenhagen were heavily criticised for their response to an attempt to remove Iraqi refugees who were living in a city church.[125] Video allegedly showed the police using violence against the refugees and their supporters. Between 12,000 and 20,000 people subsequently protested against these actions.[125]
  • In 2012, the Danish Court of Appeal concluded that the Danish Police had violated Article 3 (against abusive treatment and torture) and Articles 5, 10, and 11 (dealing with the right to liberty, the right to information about the accusation, and the freedom of peaceful assembly) of the European Convention of Human Rights for the 2009 mass arrest made during protests at the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.[126]
