independence for Greenland?

I suspect there's a bit of realpolitik involved here based on fear, given Trump's menacing them. Much as a lot of people in Greenland support pro-independence, as an autonomous part of Denmark they are technically part of NATO. This status will be seen as giving them a level of protection (for what that's worth). If they were properly independent, then they would not automatically be part of NATO, consequently, the threat of annexation by the US (thus only being independent for 5 minutes) would increase.
Yes. But they can/should use this as an opportunity to get themselves a better deal with Denmark.

Greenland wants NO part of ANY racist overlords. A new power emerging?

His party, Juno Berthelsen said, aims to invoke an article in a law that would give Greenland increased autonomy and eventually a path to full independence.

Asked to describe Greenland’s moment, he said: “If I had to pick one word, it would be exciting. And full of opportunities.”

Macron is the latest to have a sniff around. Is he there for Greenland's interest or for that of Denmark and the EU. Q who is usually an enthusiastic Greenlandic blogger has a cynical take on the topic.

Just when you thought the subject had died down:

President Donald Trump isn't just looking to acquire Greenland as he tries to gain an edge in the artic, he also wants ships that navigate icy waters.

Trump said he is negotiating with Finland to buy 15 icebreaker vessels that can cut through seas that are frozen over.

"I want to buy many, many icebreakers. You know, you're very good at ice breakings," Trump said in response to question from a Finnish journalist June 25 during a press conference in the Netherlands as he prepared to depart a NATO summit.

Fifteen icebreaker is a far cry from his initial desire to have 47 -ish he claimed he wanted.

I remember Trump trying to make it sound like Canada wanted to use some of them, but Trump said Canada could only use them if they became part of the States.

At the time of his initial number, he still had not decided on what type he wanted. No orders were placed.

Days after Trump's idea of getting 47 (?), Canada actually placed an order for seven ice breakers to be built. The Canadian ones will be sailing before Trump gets his.

I wonder if he will require the icebreakers be made with US steel...
