In The Night Garden

I watched it with my boy sitting on my lap tonight. There was one bit where all the characters were on the carousel and there was really swirling psychedelic music and it was so hypnotic. We were both mesmerised.

Imagine those things chasing you.

You are running away, as fast you can, stumbling, looking behind you at their unchanging smiling faces, as they float towards you.

They will catch you eventually, but you don't know what they will do with you when they do. All you know is that it will far far worse than them raping you or eating you. It will be a fate far far worse than death.

Even worse than a fate far far worse than death.

Especially if you are a ponkypine and ill equipped to resist their thrusting members and fangy eating teeths.

eta I love this lovely programme and watch it obsessively with my 2 year old.

If you think that In The Night Garden is slightly disturbing you should watch Lazy Town!!:eek::eek:

<I always thought that Makka Pakka was bigger than the Tombliboos until I saw them together! it seems that the makers of In The Night Garden really wanted to challenge and possibly increase kids' awareness and perception of space, size and time!>

Exactly

The boat is "drifting off" to sleep or waking up

Whatever goes in within TNG is a dream

much as 64 Zoo lane isnt actually about a girl who stays up all night and climbs into the Zoo to hang with the animals - obviously shes Asleep and the adventureettes she has are dreams

( I cant belive there is a thread on this )

No I don't think the night garden is a dream, I think it is the imagination of play. Mind you I suppose the fact that it is called the night garden might mean I'm wrong. I quite liike the idea that it is all in iggle piggles head.

Aye, Lazy Town is weird.

Friend of mine designed the costumes and aninmatronics. Spent about 6 months up in Straford on Avon filiming it and hasn't been the same since :D

This prog just makes my flesh creep.

In fact everything I've ever seen from Ragdoll has made me feel decidedly queasy.

Something very, very wrong here.

This sounds like aby porn.

Anyway, I saw ITNG for the first time this morning and yes, it is rather weird. Still not as disturbing as Boobah though, which we were made to watch during a morning with my little nephew. That show is just wrong, wrong, wrong.

Boobah's are 1st class. Sadly our video of them died last week. They did a wierd fart dance

Where's In The Night Garden gone?!?!?!!!!!!

Turned on cbeebies at 6.20 as usual and it's not on.

:mad::mad::mad:

Bloody bbc have changed the schedule. Now the foal doesn't think it's bedtime. Cannot believe they timed it to coincide with it still being light at 6.30pm - he still thinks it's mid afternoon

They've changed the bedtime hour I'm afraid. It's Charlie and Lola and 64 Zoo Lane now.

But why??? And there was no warning that this was coming - or did I miss it? I just checked the cbeebies website, and it still has last week's listings on it. The shows they've got on now don't feel like winding down/bedtime hour shows at all. Whatever is on now - something to do with baths?? - is much too lively.

I've just sent a complaint to the BBC. I can't believe this is what it took, after all these years...:o:D

I guess they want to change schedules occasionally  Can you watch ITNG on iPlayer?

That seedy couple who groom the Pop Idol contestants were hosting a show about music earlier. Regan hid under a chair until the credits rolled on their sinister mugging.

It's not really the same for a little boy who's expecting to see it on the TV. I know that schedules change - it's just this show is specifically designed for bedtime. It's been a huge huge hit, and all the parents of young children that I know rely on it. To have it taken away so suddenly is a bit of a shock.

Of course, we videoed some episodes, so it's on right now as usual. But that's not the point. We'll go mad if we have to watch the same handful of episodes. The thing's repetitive enough as it is.

Maybe they need more people to buy the DVDs. I know it cost a ridiculous amount of money to make - something like 13 million pounds.

In the Night Garden rocks. I love watching it with my lad. It not only makes him happy but its totally relaxing for me too.

A reply from the BBC to my complaint:

Thanks for your e-mail regarding the change to the schedule times for 'In the Night Garden'.

I understand you are unhappy with the decision to change the schedule slot for this programme.

I raised your concerns with Michael Carrington, Controller of CBeebies and he has responded as follows:

"I do understand that young children like routine and to that effect large parts of our schedule remain consistent; however, CBeebies has a responsibility to a considerable number of children with differing developmental stages, interests and ages. Once in a while we have to review what we are doing to ensure we are engaging with as many of them as possible.

In this case, we have refreshed the Bedtime Hour in response to our research and contact with parents and carers who have complained that it had become stale and almost boring. Storymakers has been running in that slot for almost 6 years and In the Night Garden for almost a year. I have agreed to make the changes in order to allow other programmes and stories to be told during that time. While some programmes will change from time to time within the Bedtime Hour, we shall continue to show the bedtime story at the end of the slot.

I am sorry if we have caused some disruption in your household. Hopefully this will be short term and the new schedule will become part of your routine quickly".

:(

They've fucked up lunchtime too. Big Cook Little Cook used to be on at the perfect winding down time between lunch and nap, and now some bollocks with a dog and a monkey is on instead

Guess that's the risk with relying on TV :D

bloody hate in the night garden

madge sems to love it though, even when i told her it was for babies....
