In The Night Garden

Is this not the most bizarre, psychedelic television programme of all time? I know it's for kids and all, and made by the same team that made the Teletubbies (which was also accused of being inspired by psychedelics), but even so. It's on now, and it's a weird trip however you look at it.

I was watching this with my friends toddlers the other day, it's proper crazy. They adore it though! I think some form of hypnosis is involved :D

Hahoos (not that I'm some sort of weird Night Garden nerd or anything). :(

The 'Big Hahoos' to give them their proper name.
I like In The Night Garden, it's great.

it's truly sinister shit. it gave me the fear when i saw it round at a friends house... especially the hypnotic effect it had on her toddler.

:(

In the night garden is pretty cool. I think it's the only one I approve of appart form pokoyo.

I would say that that poobars thing that used to be on ITV was maybe more mental.

Imagine those things chasing you.

You are running away, as fast you can, stumbling, looking behind you at their unchanging smiling faces, as they float towards you.

They will catch you eventually, but you don't know what they will do with you when they do. All you know is that it will far far worse than them raping you or eating you. It will be a fate far far worse than death.

Have you heard the noise they make?

Am I right in saying that Iggle Piggle is always late for bed?

It's difficult to say. Iggle Piggle lives in a dream like state between two worlds - in one he's cast alone on the ocean in another he lives in a magical fairy tale garden, I'm not sure which is real?

The ninky nonk (or whatever it is called) varies in scale, sometimes it is smaller than the characters, like toy size to them, other times it is a lot bigger than them.

I thought Iggle in the boat was just symbolic of his sleep in the same way that the nigh garden is symbolic of the fantasy wold your mind visits during play.

if i was upsy daisy i wouldn't be sleeping out in the bed in the open with that little fanny rat iggle piggle around. he's always after his wicked way with her

That's like one of the songs I make up for my boy.

Tombliboos Clean their teeth
Igglepiggle's Blanket Walks About by Itself
Pontipine Children in the Tombliboos' Trousers
Upsy Daisy's Big Loud Sing Song
Playing Hiding with Makka Pakka

  :D

I love the one where Makka Pakka washes everything with his grubby cloth. And a little bit of soap.

Fortunately my daughter is nearly five, so she can see the sarcasm with me.

Isnt that a pip? :D

Exactly

The boat is "drifting off" to sleep or waking up

Whatever goes in within TNG is a dream

much as 64 Zoo lane isnt actually about a girl who stays up all night and climbs into the Zoo to hang with the animals - obviously shes Asleep and the adventureettes she has are dreams

( I cant belive there is a thread on this )

Its a special sponge "actually"

for cleaning rocks mostly - you may have noticed MakkaPakka cuddling a nice rock when he goes to slppe

I love In The Night Garden - my goddaughter is a massive fan of it, and I've watched it quite a lot.

It's the best pre-school tv that's been made for years, IMO. Especially the fact that Derek Jacobi narrates it as well.

It's just so imaginitive and trippy and weird, and the names/ideas are brilliant!

I like Makka Pakka best. He's so cute. Oh, and the Tombliboos.
