In praise of kale

Assuming I manage to have a veggie garden in the future, I will be growing tons of the stuff - much easier to grow than sprouts and broccoli

Could you give us your kale and oatmeal recipe cause you said that before and I'd like to try it. And what are you calling oatmeal? Rolled oats or that coarse flour stuff?
Oatmeal is more like a coarse flour I guess. Not whole like rolled oats.
You just steam the kale and then stick it a frying pan with some garlic and oatmeal. Not sure how that differs from the traditional but it's what my mum did a lot when I was a kid.
Often with herrings and oatmeal too!

Not kale, but another crucifer ...
I can hardly believe it, but I was so naive in the early 80s - along with my GF at the time, but we encountered tempura at a festival and were convinced that it was parsley.
It was probably a challenge to source sufficient parsley - surely we would have tripped over broccoli in the process .
Years of being served brown and white food at home - with only frozen peas and canned tomatoes as veggies ... plus not much dietary excitement from a few years in a shared household of similarly-raised young men ...

I love kale. Def my favourite cabbagey thing. I find most supermarkets only sell it chopped up in a bag, with rough, browning ends, which is a bit off-putting. I use that to make 'green soup' (something we have with sausages or a bit of pork belly in cold months).
The whole leaf stuff is so much nicer.
In Germany you get a dish called grünkohl (which I think is also the word for kale) that is long slow cooked kale with pork fat and speck. Had some from a stall in a Christmas market in Berlin a few years ago and it was delicious.
