In Bruges

although in saying that, i do agree with the above ^^^

Me too - loved the film but Fiennes was hopelessly miscast - did not seem menacing or scary at all. They should have got Ben Kingsley in to reprise his role as Don Logan. Such a good character it should not matter that he's dead, he can come back if he likes...

Anyone else seen this? I can't believe how much I liked this film with Colin Farrell in it, they did a shockingly awful job when they were advertising it because they played up some of the slapstick elements of it which aren't really all that prominent.

Farrell is really good in it, both leads are in fact. It's funny, just about the right length, Farrell's love interest (obviously he has to have one) is stunning, but the storyline is brilliantly unpredictable at times. I watched it on Friday and liked it so much I watched it again with someone else on Saturday night. It's also got a great (I think) uncredited cameo role which is a big surprise.

Recommended. I'd give it a solid 8/10.

I want a normal gun for a normal person.

I've said it before. I shall be saying it again. I'll be saying it allot from now on.

I thought In Bruges was great.

If you liked the film its worth watching the short Six Shooter which is by the same director, and has Brendan Gleeson (KEN) in it as well. Martin McDonaugh won an oscar for it which led to him getting In Bruges made.
Aaaah, that makes sense....same dark sense of humour and just as good.

He wasn't that scary, he was beleivable though, I doubt London ganster bosses go around being 'scary' tbf, it's not Kingston afterall.

Those Kingston gangsters are scary as fuck, for all kinds of social reasons that people who don't live near that part of the Thames just wouldn't understand. :D

There is a deleted scene on the dvd which makes Fiennes look extremely scary and menacing! I think it may have been deleted because it was too bloody, though, although it helped me understand why he was so evil.

In this film?

:D
I guess they thought it was unnecessary or something.

Did you see it? The deleted scene, I mean. It shows Fiennes' character strolling in to a police station, walking over to a detective and cutting his head off, before strolling out again.

So

Did he die at the end, or not? I think he did, and that although sad, his realisation that life was good was a good last thought to have.

<spoiler=title>hidden text</spoiler>

but with [ instead of < brackets
you have to have a title or it doesn't work :)

Here is what I thought.

I thought he died. He was a child killer, so couldn't survive, surely? I kind of thought his death was his redemption or something,in that
he knew he was dying, and part of him wanted to die, and that he could have been saved and deep stuff like that.

Great film.

If I had to describe it I'd say it was 'Withnail and I' crossed with a Tarrentino film.

If I had one complaint it was that Farrel's accent was channelling Dougal from Father Ted.

Since watching it a few weeks back 'Fuckin' Bruges' has become a bit of a catchprhase in our household.

great film, should have won best oscar for screenplay easily (especially as the Milk screenplay isnt really 'original'). Everyone in it is great, even if Fiennes' character is clearly a brother to Ben Kingsely in thingymajig (a fact which is even referenced at some point in the film)

For those with a Sky+ HD tellybox, this is on Anytime at the minute and is well worth a watch.

What made it an '18' though? I saw Hellboy II over the weekend and that seemed more violent and was a '12'.

constant swearing, gory violence, unrepentant drug use?

I'm not a classifier for the BBFC, but I have seen far worse passed at 12 and 15.

Not that I am advocating censorship of any kind, just more interested how something like 'The Dark Knight' is a '12', yet this was an '18'.

There was the C word and drug use but even Shameless on TV has that.

Which is why shameless is broadcast after the watershed. Cause it's cert 18 stuff.
Loads of drug use - you can't give a midget horse fucking tranquilisers!
Gore - the big splat, trailing blood behind him.
The langage - fuck he swears a lot don't he?
Prostitution - Well you chose a very beautiful prostitute. Thank you.

Interesting fact: apparently Hannah Murray from Skins has been cast as the new Doctor Who companion. She's (briefly, and in, er, briefs) in a deleted scene on the In Bruges DVD. Opposite Matt Smith, the new Doctor Who. Who decapitates a policeman.

I urge everyone to show this scene to their younger relatives who want to know what the new Doctor Who is going to be like. :D

I just finished watching this film, I thought it was pretty excellent, kept me laughing and entertained with a not-too-obvious plot anyway. In fact, it had me royally chuckling loudly in parts, and i'd go so far as to say it's the best film i've seen in a while. Godddd, I knew his voice reminded me of someone though, and this thread has provided the answer; fuckin' Dougal of course....

I'm surprised there aren't more haters what with the short-bigots-on-high kinda stuff.... :p :o ;)

Ralph Fiennes should pay Ben Kingsley royalties for trying to nick his character from Sexy Beast. An OK movie, nowt special.
