In Bruges

Hated this. I can watch Brendan Glesson in anything but apart from him this was a horrible piece of shit. Contender for worst film I've seen in the cinema. And how six shooter won an oscar is beyond me.

I just heard that this movie is expected to stear plane loads of US tourists to Bruges and there are already so many. I predict disaster. Have visions of US'ers trying to reconstruct Bruges back home and other trying to buy buildings to demolish them and reconstruct in the States.
Nothing good can come of this, I tell you. Time for me to go back to visit the place once more before it is one big MacDonalds.

salaam.

I put a thread up about this a few months ago.......anway - I thought it was fab too! It's obviously very ironic.

Colin Farrell is fantastic in it - dead cute, and quite a convincing emotionally stunted bumbling alpha male...

Saw this last night and thoroughly recommend it. The dry Irish wit pisses over many an intentional comedy. If it wasn't for the annoying 'it just so happens' coincidences in the narrative it would be nigh on perfect imo.

still haven't seen this. i think i should get free tickets....

:D ;)

Ooh I saw it in the plane a couple weeks ago and really liked it too. Never would have thought but it was very funny.

I have seen it (and loved it) since posting on this thread originally but what I'm most pleased about is that foo* hasn't read the thread all the way through... :D

What a fucking waste of a bad joke!

Give us a cuddle dodge... :(

*...the knobber!

I'd actually spent the evening catching up on some genuine UK comedies and the dialogue in this film pissed all over them!

After watching it, I watched a short by the same guy, Martin McDonagh, called Six Shooter which I recommend too. It was that which obviously got him the gig for the feature film length work.

Here's a clip which does it no justice:

Finally got round to seeing this last night.
It's fucking great. Really dark and made me laugh out loud many times, which is rare. Recommended.

Normally I steer clear of gangster films but I thought this was great. And Colin Farrell was a surprise- really good, even though he did have a touch of the Father Dougal Macguire's about him.

they did a shockingly awful job when they were advertising it

Yup. I would not have seen the film on the basis on the adverts, because for me, they suggested the film would be totally different to how it was! I only considered it because of the praise it got on urban, so thanks urban. :)

i am obviously the only person in the entire world (apart from my friend who i saw it with) who thought this film was complete and utter drivel.
My sense of humour obviously comes from a different planet to you lot

In Bruges - One of the best black comedy/tragedy I have seen since Fargo. Ralph Fiennes and Brenden Gleeson are great but how can Colin Farrell be a sex symbol, he's a short arse?

Harry: An Uzi? I'm not from South Central Los Angeles. I didn't come here to shoot twenty black ten year olds in a drive-by. I want a normal gun for a normal person.

I loved this film - one of my favourites from last year. Colin Farrell is a revelation too. Manages to be hard and menacing but also has a lost vulnerable, almost boyish quality too him.

And doesn't it make Bruges look lovely, not a shithole at all!

I have mixed views - some if it was laugh out loud funny, there were some great ideas in it, Farrell was good for once, Gleason, as always, was faultless. Fiennes was shit - a poor Ben Kingsley sexy beast impression whch really put me off the last 20 minutes of the film. I will side with liking it, but it's no classic.

I watched this a couple of weeks ago and thought it was pretty shit. You could see the end coming a mile off. And Farrell is not a great actor.

yeh watched this at the weekend and really enjoyed it an all. excellent performance by colin F and v darkly funny. big thumbs up from me yes oh yes :)
