Impressive / cool bass lines.

I Feel Love

Simple and effective.

2nd that  its knackering to play the whole thing at speed though

Primus, yeah, but you need a six string fretless bass and twelve thumbs to play it.

I recommend (to play)

Money - Pink Floyd

Hysteria - Muse

Wake up and make love to me - Ian Dury & The Blockheads

Naked in the rain - RHCP

Higher Ground (slap) - Stevie Wonder/RHCP

I'm currently playing:

Meatball - EZ Rollers

Badass - Mickey Finn & Aphrodite

Da Funk - Daft Punk

Or if you REALLY want to impress him, flight of the bumblebee:

Theres fucking loads - those are just off the top of my head :)

Fugazi's waiting room - again simple and effective, definitely cool although I'm not sure about "impressive".

Bit of Hooky never did anyone any harm either - you get to do more than bassists usually do, although you might need a five-stringer for some of it.

Pixies 'Debaser'

Zinc 'Reach Out' (remix)

Roni Size & Reprazent 'Brown Paper Bag'

London Elektricity 'Strangest Secret In The World'

:)

Are there many other hits without basslines?

Dizzee Rascal's Fix Up Look Sharp – I hadn't even noticed it didn't have a bassline until I listened to it the other day.

Does In The Air Tonight have a bassline?

This has set me thinking now. Unfortunately my thoughts turned to Phil Collins :(

I think he used a strange tuning on his guitar to get that bass sound ... though I could be making that up!
It's still a bassline though innit - doesn't matter if it isn't played by a bass guitar

Just listen to anything played by Norman Watt-Roy out of the Blockheads if you want to hear a great bassist.
Rob Wright out of Nomeansno is also supremely gifted and very difficult to copy!

I always thought Entwistle was just a frustrated guitarist tbh! (that won't be popular!)

I'm sure Seven Nation Army has a bassline

Its an addtional guitar track played with plenty of bass on the EQ and an octave effect pedal. It plays the original note and then copies that note and plays it up to several octaves higher or lower. :)

Fuckig hell. Hardly a mentio0n on John Paul Jones anywhere here. (LED ZEP)

The Lemon Song. JPJs solo toward the end is a masterclass in use of scales and bass harmony.

its fucking that ----> and some !

Lots of Stranglers stuff:

The obvious ones being things like "No More Heroes" and "Peaches", but some of their more "Prog-punk" stuff is where it is at - check out "Goodbye Toulouse" and all three parts of "Down in The Sewer" from of Rattus Norvegicus: IV

Jean-Jaques Burnell may have been a tosser by all accounts, but he was a great bassist.

Anyone can do a Hooky though – it's just strumming.

Well, most of the basslines mentioned here I would say anyone with half an idea which way up to hold the instrument could play. I thought we were talking about which ones sounded good?

Point me in the direction of some stunning bass lines. I want to make a cocky teenager a little less cocky (although the cant can still play better than me  )

Longdog wanted a "stunning" bass line – Hooky's all right, but his bass playing doesn't take my breath away.

The bass that really takes my breath away doesn't come from a guitar ;)
