Imperial War Museum, London

i like looking at all the uniforms, fancy ribbons and medals and military bags....

Last time I was there there was something about the Polish and the war and they had a Polish cavalryman's uniform.

It was something else to look at

I went to the Imperail War Museum last summer with an Iraqi Kurdish student of mine who loved it, said it reminded him of the Iran-Iraq war. Gave me a little bit of perspective on what he'd seen, especially the recreation of the trenches in WW1

I went to the IWM when I was a kid and it appeared to be HUGE, with seemingly never-ending exhibitions. I went back last year and, hey presto, it felt like it had shrunk markedly! Just my imagination and a different perspective brought about by advancing years!!

It was very interesting nonetheless. I even bumped into a party of school kids and teachers from my old school that I left almost 30 years ago!

If you plan it well, and get up early enough, its possible to do the RAF Museum Hendon (actually, its Colindale on the tube) in the morning AND get down to the IWM by hoping on the Northern Line for the afternoon. A great day all for the price of a travelcard.

As an aside, I was born and brought up close to RAF Hendon when it was an active airbase and can remember big, low-flying transport planes tree-hopping over my local park!

I'm told in the grounds there are some rings attached to the trees to which lunetics were tied for the amusement of the hoi polloy.

On a similar vein to the IWM, I note the National Army Museum in Royal Hospital Road, is due to reopen in March after an extensive makeover.
