I'm sick of this bullshit

:D

I'm not trying to be controversial ...it just happens to be what I think. Sorry if you don't agree with what I say or how I say it.

Sure Elvis was a very important part of contemporary musics evolution, until the 60's. Then he inexplicably became a jaded crooner like that other over-hyped gangster Sinatra. I'm not denying they had stage prescence and the ability to hold a tune ...but they were hardly musical greats were they? The term 'greatness' has to be reserved for people with a bit more than nice singing voices surely?

Maybe we've just got different ideas of what talent really is.

When's the next series of Stars In Their Eyes anyway?

ignoring all your bollocks about white trash - which once again shows you for the unpleasant bigot you clearly are - you also know close to fuck all about contemporary music..

but there ya go :D

Both still shite, of course, but at least they could write their own songs, play (some) instruments and did some work to get to the top.

I think you'll find pop stars today working chuffing hard long days to get where they are...granted it may be different to the more conventional route of gigging and waiting for a break to happen or an A&R man turn up to your gig.

I'd put cash money on it, but if you totalled up the hours Girls Aloud have put into work this year, it's way more than say Artic Monkeys.

If you'd seen either Sinatra or Presley at their formidable peak you'd know you're talking out of your arse.

and of course, Martha & The Vandella and the Supremes spent YEARS working the northern working mens club circuit and playing Camden Falcon before they were FINALLY discovered :D

Yeah clearly. The Internet is soooo illuminative isn't it? :D

Gosh, you're so ...right on. Do you wear kicker boots and dungarees?

They certainly worked hard for it:
Founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1960, the group had initially gone by the name The Del-Phis and originally was a quartet led by Martha Reeves and childhood friends Rosalind Ashford, Annette Beard and Gloria Williamson. Williamson left after a failed single on the Chess Records subsidiary, Checkmate, leaving the quartet as a trio. They changed their name again to The Vells signing a deal with Motown's Mel-o-dy label, and singing background for established Motown performers such as Mary Wells and Marvin Gaye before signing a new deal with Motown's Gordy label, changing their name to Martha and the Vandellas in 1962.
Founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1959, The Supremes began as a quartet called The Primettes. Founding members Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, Diana Ross, and Betty McGlown, all from the Brewster-Douglas public housing project in Detroit, were the sister act to The Primes (later The Temptations). In 1960, Barbara Martin replaced McGlown, and the group signed with Motown in 1961 as The Supremes. Martin left at the end of 1961, and Ross, Ballard, and Wilson carried on as a trio

right on? me - not really. Do have a problem with internet warriors thinking they're dead hardcore by referring to people as white trash based on their viewing habits.. If that's right on, so be it..

well, two years tops is hardly a long, hard won struggle to the top, but i think you know what i meant anyway
I'd say things were just a teensy weensy bit harder in those days when it came to the opportunities offered to talented girl groups from public housing projects, so their success speaks volumes of their drive, ambition and hard work.

Or their ability to have sex with record company bosses.

You really are quite a despicable, sour-faced cunt, aren't you?

Gosh ...that's not very nice is it? :D :D

But anyway ....let's steer this away from the personal insults because I know how you and dubversion don't like it when that happens.

So are you saying that girl bands/acts/singers don't have sex with record company bosses to further their careers or to get their 'talent' recognised?

I said that they found success through their drive, ambition and hard work.

You've suggested that it was only due to their "ability to have sex with record company bosses" and, presumably nothing to do with the attributes I've already listed (not that I think you'd recognise talent if it rubbed up and came all over your face).

So have you proof that all of them did have sex with their bosses, then?

Where did I use the words "only" and "all of them"?

You've suggested that it is only their work ethic and talent that ensure their success. Can you prove that?

No ..of course not, so stop being a prick.

Some female artists have got where they did because they fucked their way up some of the rungs of the ladder. Note my use of the word "some". Sorry if that disturbs you're fairy-tale, rose tinted view of the world.

Do you believe in fairies too?

Can you provide any evidence that the success of the bands we were discussing was down to their ability to have sex with record company bosses as you suggested, or not?

If not, kindly shut the fuck up.

Thanks.

Diana Ross.

Is that proof then?

I mean, I hate Ross and her little reedy voice, but it's fair to say that she always looked the lead, whether she was boning Gordy or not. Mary Wilson may not have liked it, but I doubt the move to front the group was anything but inevitable once TV appearances took up such a key role.

Still, you are excelling yourself on this thread Zen . The usual witless ill-thought out bluster to start the thread, followed by sneering 'white trash' nonsense and now unsubstantiated allegations about pop stars. Lovely work...

Or just an admission that you're spouting clueless bullshit, if you like.

I didn't use the word "all".

Plus, when I made my comment I was referring to female musical acts in general ...not specifically the ones you mentioned.

And anyway, I think you'll find that The Supremes were suddenly "discovered" after touring all those seedy night clubs around the same time that Diana Ross fluttered her eyelids at Berry Gordy.

Stop being a weasel, it's embarrassing.

How do you know I was "sneering" when I wrote the white trash comment? Self projection perhaps? You're weird.
