I had my first serious smoochie snog to that song (well, I hope it was that one. If it had been Dreadlock Hoiday that would have been bad)

TBF, I rate a first serious smooch as more important than the tune backing that wonderful moment. Unless it was Macarena.

good lenny henry bit about doing just that growing up in dudley - couldnt find a link but its playing in my mind right now. did u watch derren brown?

Makes slightly more base mental connections with me I'm afraid. All I can remember about teenage smooching was slightly titling the pelvis back to conceal ones erection. :o

its just a brilliant musical composition. Extraordinarily unique in configuration, melody, and movements - nothing similar exists.

:hmm:

It's fairly archetypal of the 70s isn't it?

As the writer you claim to be you should know there is no need to qualify the word 'unique'.. either it is or it isn't.

I don't believe it is, but then I can remember the record when it came out and records of jarringly dull similarity that came out before and after, which polluted the airwaves in the 70s..

I can't be bothered (and nor am I, just like you, musically knowledgeable enough) to start listing them all out.. but essentially what you said is incorrect.

It makes ditchwater seem positively fascinating. Banal lyrics, turgid rhythm and a vocalist who could missed out on his true vocation as a rag and bone man.

I love this song, It's part of the soundtrack to my youth.

A lad at school made me a tape of songs and this was on it. :o :)
