I'm getting nervous! Germany v. Argentina

Dandred said:
Me to, but what a game!!!

Germany played shit in the first half, but Germany got the win!!!

Let's hope the British press recognised that fact ! makes their view of the England team look a bit silly doesn't it ?

What was all that at the end all about?

1840 BST: The Germany players celebrate their success - but there is a problem as the squads square up to each other on the pitch. In the chaos following Jens Lehmann's save, it seems someone from the Argentina camp may have swung a punch at a German player or official. Officials are trying their best to restore order. A dramatic game is ending in dramatic fashion.

Don't know what your saying sorry, I'm not in Britain, can you give me a link please?

I'm in Korea.

I wonder what the odds are for a tabloid to have the title "Argy Bargy" for one of their back page stories?

so what happened with the fight then, i wasn't paying attention.

well done our hunnish friends, let's hope we meet them in the final.

I've go to admit but...

Well done and congrats to Deutschland for getting into the semi's and beating the tournament favourites Argentina. After watching the match i feel that Jose Pekerman made a critical mistake i.e. His team sat back, shut up shop or doing a Sven Goran Ericksson, after taking a deserved lead 4 minutes after the first half which was tepid. Plus the fact he used his substitutions wrongly, he had Messi, Saviola and Aimar on the bench and none of the three was used!

Germany deserved their equaliser and as the second half and extra time progressed i'd had a sneaky, but inevitable feeling that they were going to win on penalties. So that amazing record that they've got i.e. Not losing a penalty shoot out for 30 years continues.

Hooray for Germany! 4-2 in penalties! :) Fair result.

I wonder if Argentina have ever been knocked out of the World Cup this early before? Well, they did deserve to get a kicking (thinks of Hand of God) ;)
Didn't get out of their group last time thanks to the mighty mighty england... ahem.

good result. Argentina, for all their skill on the ball and clever build up play were exposed as the toothless side they really are today.

it's a cliche, but they don't like teams who get at them, and for me they were never clear favourites.

Congratulations to germany though and if England don't win it then i hope they do. Though i'm still standing by my pre tournament pick of Italy.

Exactly.

Fucking YES!!!

I would do some backflips for you or something if I wasn't so utterly trashed!!!

My mates in the pub had it all worked out: Klose header (that was before argentina scored but never mind, happened eventually); fancied Lehmann to hold those penalties.

Thanks to everyone for congratulatory texts and calls - See you in the Final! :D

Will catch up on this thread properly later, but WTF????

WHY were Argentina so shit? In the second half at least?

And why did they not bring Messi on???

And why were Germany so 'efficient' and not a great deal better than that??

And why can't Argentina do penalties???

Unbelievable ... more soon ....

(i am a bit rubbish like this) but i always feel sorry for the other side.

it was a very even game. the argentinians where better most of the time. i pull my hat because home advantage really rang true today where more than half of the stadium were germany supporters.

i didn't see the penalty winning bit because i was at work...

our win really took me by surprise. i would have been prepared to go home...

but now it is all cool and the gang. :) somehow we always manage.. just.

germany as a country always reminds me to the eldest brother of a family. got similar qualities.

for me of what i saw wasn't a boring game thoug..they all played well..

goes and gets beer... :) :)

now let's see how france will cope with brazil! :D

And why did they not bring Messi on???

They'd already made 2 subs, then their goalie had to go off injured...sub no. 3. No room for Messi unfortunately for the Argies.

Great game, really enjoyed it. Peckerman really made a hash of the subs bringing Requelmie (sp?) off.

Sad to see the Argies out as they were easily the most enjoyable team to watch..Tevez is just superb. But I think if Eng. get through I reckon they'd fare better against Germany in the final than against Argentina. But thats a loooooong way off.

Germany v Italy should be a very good semi, opposing styles and all that.

dirty cheating argie bastards....going home before us

they didn't deserve to carry on cheating their way to another world cup....

double the amount of "free kicks awarded" than Germany...the next dirtiest team in the world

and then the "well done lads, well played" handshake at the end...just rounded it off nicely for me...

as much as i hate Germany...we need them in it...to beat them in the final...

COME ON ENGLAND

Something is right fishy....

Even a dirty argie sub wouldnt have gone on the pitch and just kicked a kraut for just loosing a game. It was an isolated incident that match of the day high lights have picked up as FIFA have confiscated all footage.

It clearly shows an argie kicking some kraut full on in the groin, but come on what did he say to him FFs, not that that warrants his actions in anyway, just not that one sided imo.

And there they are dedicating the QFs to eradicate racism and bad sportsmanship...........shocking and fishy at the same time.....

I missed the first half Hollis, and the first bit of the second when Argentina scored.

I came in on 70 minutes, and the rest of the game after that seemed to me to be ugly and attritional and very far from stylish in any way. Of course penalities are exciting, and on what I saw (I mean of the pre-penalties play), Germany deserved to win all in all, but they scarcely played attractive flowing football ...that was partly down to Argentina as well. I was really disappointed in them, because before this match, they'd been the best team of the tournament for me.

I'm with EJ about Argentina's inept substituting,. OK the goalkeeper one was forced on Pekerman, but taking Riquelme off and not using Messi was insane.

PS Missed the punch up also ...

when i watched the review of the game on friday evening. i loved my country so much.

i am happy that the penalty shoot out was clearly won by us and not just -just just!

my brother in law told yesterday am that there was the biggest party in berlin all night long. it seemded that everybody was up and about...that is just so sweet somehow.

italy and germany on tuesday should be very interesting. italians are the second biggest population group in germany after the turkish.

this time there will be no mercy i want deutschland to win!!!

i was struggling with argentina because they where my secretly favoured country/team.

Who was it saying Argentina were dead certs to win the tournament again?:D

That was me, once. On their form prior to the Germany match, they looked pretty good bets. I still don't really understand what happened on Friday ...
