I'm free of windows! (nearly)

I'm about to step out, but as far as I remember, you can download the Moz plugin from Macromedia, install it and soft link it to the plugins directory in Firefox...

For those interested in GAIM, word on the street is google hired him (the main programmer) for work on their google talk prog. His blog/site/ said soething about him learning a lot about user interfaces from working there, and there's going to be a new version of GAIM (2.0 i think) in around a month.

About switching from windows, jesus i've had enough trouble setting up my comp as it is lol - but i should :)

Does ubuntu take up that much space? (thinking about running that then windows on top of that, heard you can run some emulation program or something).

So ye, be patient with gaim imo :)

Ubuntu doesnt take up too much space (certainly no more than Windows) and I did manage to install XP using a free emulator (it began with Q I think, but I can look it up at home if you like).

For running windows apps there is also the option of crossover office which I use for Photoshop. But Ive still got windows on a speerate partition when needed.

open office doesn't support the office packages format completly, i am using 1.5 , i don't think 2.0 has added that much from looking at the changelog, apart from that its very good.

There is an article in PCPro magazine this week that really bigs up the new openoffice. They had no problems importing Word/XL files with all sorts of funny formatting.

As for the GIMP, I use it all the time for basic stuff, i.e. cropping pics, resizing, converting to jpg. Maybe it would be different if I needed it for more fancy stuff, but I find it perfect for my needs, and FREE!!!!!

I'm currently really enjoying the xfce4 desktop. Fast, lightweight and looks lovely.

Seconded. I tried it out of curiosity a few months ago and haven't been back to gnome since.
