I'm constantly losing internet connection

checked my router logs again... no disconnection from Zen ADSL today, connection time now at 616 hours.

Phone BT and ask them to check your phone line.

Will wait 'til the next sign comes up, and it will! When I got home there was about 20 windows open saying unsafe disconnection  Next time it happens, I'll pick up phone.

However, a message has popped up about installing Thomson and USB8023k.sys

I know I have to install disc again which I did do earlier until I got to a page where I have to fill details in which is where I get stuck :D

If the laptop already has a wireless card in it, it should Just Work.

Minor caveat: If you've had to fit a wireless card yourself, or have to reinstall windows, you may run into problems to do with needing software for the card that does not come with windows (linux tends not to give its users this particular problem).

Ok cool cheers. You got that Thompson sorted yet MM?

Oh yeah, I see you're still on with it. Don't you just hate hard/software when it throws shit like this at us. Knocks me reet off kilter it does

and what's more, because I've got a really bad memory, I won't remember anything anyone writes on here and my printer is out of black ink so I can't print either (except it's NOT out of ink and the wrong ink tank is NOT inserted). So anyway, I'm going to go through the disc again, write down the bits where I've got to type something in, and hopefully someone will tell me what I'm supposed to type in, then I'll go through it all again and enter the details and hopefully it'll work

HELP

Your SpeedTouch configured before. If you want to reconfigure your SpeedTouch, choose YES, otherwise choose NO.

What do I click on, YES or NO?

:hmm:

Why don’t you just call your ISP help-line?

The one downside of Zen = shuts 8.00pm :D

I'm somehow back. Nobody to help me so I went through installation and constantly got Authentication Failed when putting in username and password.

Gave up, but have just come back and I seem to be in.

I've no idea what the hell's happening :mad:

I hope you didn't smell fishy :p

There were complaints made. :o:D

as for you..

you prolly had Authetication denied coz you were already on with that connection already sort of thing.

call your ISP/BT whilst connected...check the line isn't at fault...it happens...it's technical thing that happens....it gets sorted. Often.

It happens all the time.

And yes the modem can be a cause also...but as miss minnie keeps on saying...her connection is fine...so yours "should" be too..

Well Zen reckon it's definitely the router that's dying.

Mentioned about the hot weather and it getting overheated and I said it had been getting very hot, but it's cooler now and it's still switching off.

So, now I need a new router. He said I could buy the same one off Zen but I could get them much cheaper.

As my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 4000 I don't have an ethernet socket (that I could see), so I need to buy an ADSL router with a USB socket.

So what do I buy please?

Don't they supply you with a free router?

I've been with Virgin, Orange (hell) and now o2, all have supplied routers free and replacements if required free too.

You just need the right gadget for the job.

* goes off to look in cupboards for old ethernet adsl router

I had a similar problem and i thought it was my ISP or a router problem. Turned out the cable from the router to the phone box had a slight tear...

My modem gets very warm as does the plug itself, but I'm not sure how normal that is.

I'm trying to find a new one on Amazon but I keep losing connection :D

My laptop can't get a connection whilst downstairs in my house, which is annoying as my bedroom is upstairs. I don't want to move the modem as it's shared, any ideas why there's no connection please?
