I'm being outsourced

Upside: you can have lunch with me and hendo. There are some good food shops on the Uxbridge Road, including the marvellous Damas Gate and The Nut House. :D

Downside: White City. :(
That'll be nice!
What's so bad about White City then?
I don't even know where it is! I assume it's somewhere near Shepherd's Bush?

It's just a whole load of nothing really, and Shepherd's Bush isn't much to shout about (I used to live there).

It's just a bit of a wasteland, tbh. Nothing much there apart from the Beeb. And it takes agest to get there from Brixton. Shepherd's Bush is a good ten minutes walk away, which is fine, but it's a bit much of a lunchtime.

I'm gonna be cycling up there, so I hope it makes me superfit

so I take it that no one knows if outsourcing is the same as a takeover?

my understanding of outsourcing is that you pay an external company to do a job that you used to your yourself, whereas a takeover is when your company is bought by another company...

No, it's not the same. Outsourcing is contracting out a function/aspect of provision of services. Takeover is when a company or part of a company is bought.

Um, at the risk of depressing you further, I've never heard anyone say "Oh I'm so glad we've been outsourced. Our pay and conditions are so much better now."
This didn't depress me at all. I laughed out loud when I read it.

Poor Orang

Does that mean you'll have to get up at silly o'clock to get there?
It depends on what shifts I'll be doing, which I won't find out for a long time

White City is one of those places where loads of people work but you don't see hardly anybody about because there's massive roads running through it. It's horrible.

Good for QPR though.

Blind Lemon was outsourced a very long time ago (I think when Heseltine was DTI top bod).......he's been shuffled around offices all over South East England and in the end he pulled the blind card because of one move too far and wangled Central London again.

what Iemanja said then ;)

I was looking into TUPE'ing some people recently and they'd have potentially have been substantially better off with us than their previous employer. That said, despite the fact they would have had better benefits etc, I bet they would have hated the upheaval etc and we certainly weren't banking on many of them opting to make the move.

*scrolls down*

Oh yes! I quoted Iemanja's post, that's odd. I didn't see the second bit

Sorry, haven't read the whole thread.

Being TUPE'd was the best thing that ever happened to me, gave me a new lease of life completely and opened up opportunities I wouldn't have seen in a million years.

In theory it's seamless, I've TUPE'd twice and there has only been minor officialdoms needed sorting.

I did lose out financially tho', I used to get a guaranteed 15% bonus every year, which went down to 5% as it wasn't contractual.

But all in all, I'm delighted I TUPE'd at that time.
