Illegal deportation: afghan refugee

Indeed. Huge problem which is beyond the scope of the most benign and intelligent British foreign policy even if such a thing was on offer.

It's also not something that will happen overnight but something that will take generations.

IMO throwing open our doors to the whole of Africa and the Middle East (and why not Asia and S America while we're at it? Plenty of misery there too) will bring the west down before bringing the world up. More likely it will lead first to a massive and destructive backlash from western voters, as is already happening to some extent.

A sensible measured approach offering asylum to genuine cases in an orderly way is the answer. Encouraging border jumping and people smuggling with heart wrenching videos is stupid.

What's more it is basically a selfish approach aimed at making the west feel generous and open at the expense of actually making the problem worse.
Alright Martina.

What we have at the moment is neither an open door policy nor a sensible or restrictive or anything else policy. We have a punitive and chaotic process with no way for most people to legally get here and claim asylum. It's our government that encourages people to jump on lorries by giving them no other options. The wall at calais will mean people smuggling is the only way to get here; so prices will go up again and smugglers will get more vicious to protect their lucrative business.

What you have to remember is that there are Syria-level crises in Eritrea, Sudan, Yemen as well as Syria; and Iraq and Afghanistan are subject to sporadic violence too- some areas are at war. Ethiopia is a vicious and repressive state, Zimabwe still is too. Yet the uk has an official rettlement programme only for a very few Syrians. So if you are from one of the other countries, what do you do? You have to enter illegally, because there is no way *to* enter legally.

The refugee who lives with me would have loved a legal way of getting here, or anywhere. He didn't want to pay a smuggler. He didn't want to be a refugee. He tried to go to three countries legally, trying to stay in the Middle East and work before giving up and getting the boat to Greece. We, the EU have created more people smugglers with our irrational, punitive policies. We are driving up the prices. We are increasing the risks. And then we are abusing them and breaking international laws when they get here.

The current process is insane, frankly.

You could go and apply at a consulate or at the first border you legally get to. Or you can enter on a tourist visa if you qualify and apply when here.

It's not as though the whole world has a right to claim asylum in Britain.

Even if the UK suddenly changed its tune which it isnt likely to we couldnt possibly take most of the middle east large bits of africa pakistan india and afgahnistan etc

Immigration and asylum policy is Always going to be a mess until reaching the west doesnt mean you double your life expectancy get access to healthcare education clean water and an absence of air strikes.

A european wide plan might have been an option but merkel and brexit have ruined it along with the rapist scum in germany.
Public really doesnt notice the diffrence between refugee and immigrant.

What's humane about having thousands of people drowning in the Mediterranean and bouncing about in the back of lorries on the false hope of a warm welcome on a land of plenty?
