Il Posto Italian Restaurant, Victoria

Is it on the road from the back of Victoria station if you're walking towards Grovesner (sp?) Square? It looks very much like the place. If so, I went there several years ago and ate well. Couldn't tell you about wheelchair access, I'm afraid. It wasn't very busy, and I just asked the old fella (owner?) what was good and went with his recommendation.

Why are you rambling on about Dublin? The place I'm interested in is in Victoria, London.

Yes Minnie, I've already read the reviews online and seen that they're generally good.

*deep breath* What I'm interested in knowing is: If. Any. Urbs. Have. Eaten. At. Il. Posto. And. What. They. Think.

Got it?

ungrateful git :mad::p

Oh I've eaten there I'm sure. Didn't stand out but didn't suck. Otherwise I'd remember specific meals there, right? I worked around that area for a long period of time and ate out at loads of places, that was one of many, I am sure it was fine. Or I'd remember it!

I went to Bumbles near victoria for a rather pleasant lunch on Thursday. It was nice. don't think the toilets were wheelchair accessible.

this has reminded me that I meant to big up Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec and, even more so, The Lobster Pot.

I went there once.

Ended up absolutely legless :(

By the way, thanks to jakejb79 for the only definitive answer I've had so far!

Epona and contadino, thanks for your less definitive answers :p

fogbat - get your coat and go! --> *points firmly in the direction of the door*

Last went there nineteen years ago  with a gaggle of my contemporaries in our first London jobs after a few drinks in The Cardinal. As a group we must have been hell to serve. IIRC the food was better than expected for a Friday night in Victoria, but not so good that I felt a special need to go back.

Good on Il Posto that they are still operating as an independent in that area.

Every available site seems to have been taken over by the chains such all those half-empty places under Cardinal Place - the glass building just north of Victoria Street (BTW- do people actually call it "The Anteater" because of its shape or is that just PR puff).

Well, that is a definitive answer, but I was hoping for a more recent review ;)

I'd much rather use independent places where possible, and this lot sure are tenacious if the 'established since 1892' claim on their website is correct!

For what I need, the restaurant doesn't have to be cutting-edge cuisine but it does need to be somewhere that serves half-decent grub at a reasonable price.

I also need a pub nearby for people to meet in. Would you recommend The Cardinal? If not, is there a decent boozer round there?

ETA Off to bed now but will check back tomorrow. Night.

Just to say that Il Posto was great - a really good, family-run Italian in Victoria. Would heartily recommend it, especially over Italian chains in the area like Prezzo.

What are cheques???

:p

HSBC wouldn't let me take out a large amount of cash earlier this week unless I showed them a cheque book (for my savings account...). I had brought every form of ID known to man, bank statements, cards everything. They wanted a fucking cheque book. I did point out that hardly anyone uses cheques any more and certainly not for savings accounts.

I got gaijinboy to pay up instead. Lloyds aren't as fussy apparently. :D

Went to Il Posto again today and it was just as good second time round, maybe better in fact. Had a truly excellent penne arrabiata  Why it isn't packed out all the time is beyond me as there's a dearth of decent restaurants around Victoria.

I was also impressed to see the staff dealing very patiently with a tourist who was complaining that there was seafood in her spaghetti marinara :D
