Ikea

The Neasden slash Wembley Ikea is open until 10pm - when I need to go, I'll get there around 8pm, can have a good whizz through and no-one at the check-outs at 9.30.

Never, ever, go on Sunday. Just don't.

Me and the other half went to Croydon Ikea on a Friday night once, had a nice meal of meatballs in the restaurant, overlooking the car park. Was quite romantic.

Planned our kitchen, bought some tealights and then went to the megabowl.

That's living! :D

I've just got back from the ikea in edmonton, it was really quiet (please bear in mind that I used to go to lakeside and that one was literally heaving) I got loads of storage nik-naks for next weekend when I totally blitz this flat of the crap thats been sitting here for 3 years doing fuck all but gathering dust

I got a can of their non alcoholic pear cider too it's the fucking nuts

my mummy paid for it all too cus my cashcard is broked

I'll second all of that.

The quietest Ikea I've ever been to is the one just outside Birmingham (which means it's bearable even in summer). I can't decide whether that means Brummies and yam-yams have more taste than everyone else, or less. :)

And why do I ALWAYS have to buy a hot dog? I never eat stuff like that anywhere else. :D

Thats the Ikea I go to....and I usually buy a veggie dog then wander into the shop for pudding in the form of anything thats in a basket thats free to try !

the car park was romantic  :p

heheh I love the croydon ikea, on my next trip i am buying some fabric to make a jacket!! and some curtains and a weird aluminum plant holder which you fix to the ceiling and floor!!

I may also have a rather smart but huge ikea double wardrobe to give away as it may be too big for the new house.

it looks a bit like this http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15597&catalogId=10103&storeId=7&productId=16553&langId=-20&categoryId=15862&chosenPartNumber=S59808892

but is navy blue with 3 draws and lights. :)

We went to Ikea yesterday and I'm happy to say our relationship made it through. Killer b just walked round going 'can i go to sleep on the beds?' the entire time

We've never argued in Ikea, we just spend the whole time going "Ooh, that's nice" "Yes, it is!"

Why do you always go in Ikea and say 'I'll just have one of these and one of these...' and ocme out 200 quid lighter?

TBH Unless it's real wood I find most of their stuff tat and it doesn't seem to really 'work'* unless you live in a 60's onwards property?

Saying that if I tried to put less modern furniture in where I am now it owuld look wrong so it's off to Ikea I go :D

Hmm shall I take the boyfriend or is that a surefire way to impending break-up?!

*excluding shelves I guess

IKEA "furniture" is only suitable for kitting out buy-to-let properties where its "style" adds at least £50 per month to the rent...

yeah, the twinkling of the security lights on a dark night, watching some people struggling to get their flat pack chest of drawers into a small hatchback... :D

We almost bought an Iea kitchen once, the one that's freestanding...?

We didn't in the end, had one fitted... then a couple of years later, I went to a party at my bosses house and she had the freestanding Ikea kitchen!

Glad I never went for it, really.

ikea croydon is on one of my routes home from work - open til midnight on weekdays too.

favourite things not mentioned thus far:
drinking straws
rubber ice cube moulds in fun shapes
glasses
bed linen (must stop buying bedlinen)
wrapping paper

The last time I went to Ikea, my Austin Metro (RIP :( ) broke down in the bit where you drive in to colect your furniture. Pulled up to collect my bookcase...orange liquid pissing out of the engine, all over the place. Quite embarrasing as it goes. Had to call the AA. Got towed home. Entertaining for everyone else in the carpark I suppose.

I fuckin hate Ikea

i refuse to go to ikea

generally mrs pingu and i get along really well

but the ONE time we went to ikea we had a blazing row and didnt speak to each other for about a week. It was over bedding. she thought it was ace i thought it was twee, shite and wouldnt fit our normal sized bed. She bought it anyhow and lo and behold it didnt fucking fit.

so anyhow... I wont go there any more

I agree. I hate every piece Ikea furniture I have. Except the futon that I bought on Ebay for £50, but that's only because it's real wood and I recovered the futon and added a memory foam layer.:D And I only bought it because at the time I lived up 3 flights of stairs and there was no other couch option.

Ikea is good for plates and glasses, their Le Crueset-a-like cast iron pans and maybe some of the office furniture. But i wouldn't want to buy anything else there. The furniture all looks like starter furniture and someone you know will always end up with the exact same thing. And as for why anyone would consider buying art there?????

I much prefer getting stuff on Ebay, it's cheaper and more original. I got a fabulous fair-trade, sustainably farmed, solid wood table and 6 chairs (though it seats 8) for £369 and a gorgeous cast iron and mosiac garden furniture for £199. I never had to trek around a store getting annoyed with Mr Iguana and the other customers, and everything was delivered to our door. And nobody has come into our house and said "Oh look, it's the "Billy" I have that too," like someone did about our bookcase.:(

But there comes a point in one's life when miscellaneous skip furniture just won't do :)

I want some junk/skip furniture so I can plastikote it.

I love Ikea, as others have said, great for glasses and stuff like that. I also have some fab bottle stoppers and little pink stools. And washing up brushes with suckers that stick to tiles.:D

We bought a coffee table from there and we get loads of compliments on it, I've gone right off it but everyone seems to like it and I've never seen another one. i live 100 miles away from nearest ikea though.

Whereas I live within walking distance.

I always have to alter any flat pack furniture I buy. My office desk will look much nicer once I spray it turquoise.:) Though it's from Argos rather than Ikea.

What sold me on Ikea was two simple wooden hatstands I bought years ago which make perfect slatted kitchen shelves - about a fiver each - brilliant simple design - would have cost a fortune and heaps of effort to DIY.

Here in Matosinhos there is a new site being devoloped for Ikea, but they are having all sorts of problems with the local red tape! The head of the project has been waiting for six months to get residency!

But I am looking forward to the foodstuffs, the salmon, the gluten free cakes, heaven!

About 7 years ago I got a great bathroom unit, over 6ft high, standard base cupboard, but the top is mirrored on one side with a couple of hooks on the opposing side, then shelves on the other two opposing sides. And it swivels right round. It's fab - everyone who has visited have commented. They don't do it anymore.
Also a coat/hat rack (handy for crash helmets) and matching shoe stacky thing. We bought another shoe stacky thing and customised it to make a screen stand for the computer so it is now eye level, and shoved all the printer type crap under.
The lighting is great - we've got the under cupboard lighting for the kitchen.
Bins - their bins make nice plant pots.
Ooo, the plant pots are good value too.
Rugs - got a nice white round rug.
Enuff!
