You can't use the leather argument cos leather's a bi-product of the meat industry.

An elephants foot is a by product of the ivory / hunting industry so no problems there either

Someone is currently building a big bike shed out of railway sleepers in our garden. The sleepers are made from a rare African hardwood, presumably pillaged from important rainforests. As if that's not bad enough, they came from Belgium - where they have been for the last 40 years. So they could quite possibly have been produced by slavery or near-slavery - we don't know. Weird to think about. But since they have another 40 years of life left in them, and buying them was not going to suddenly restart Belgian colonialism, it seemed like they should at least be put to good use housing our bikes

How does one 'acquire' an elephants foot anyhow? They're not exactly small and found in bushes on the road.
