If the Rastas actually burnt down babylon...

..how much pollution would be released into the environment?

You see I have been listening to much reggae music and the idea of burning babylon doesn't really sit well with me. Wouldn't burning babylon just make things worse by causing a gigantic spread of pollution across the globe?

Would it be better for the environment if they trampled/mashed down babylon instead? That would damage a lot of ecosystems too.

Perhaps the best solution to get rid of pollution, end corruption and exploitation and sufferation, is not to actually burn babylon but to collect enough ganja and build enough speakers to use in a global peaceism attack, get everyone stoned and create rootical dubwise vibrations in the form of righteous dub music across the entire world?

babylon isn't only the worldly empire, it's also a state of mind.
Ah, I see... and one could "emancipate oneself from mental slavery" by burning the babylon that is within our minds...
*gets all pensive*

that's why so many rastas have switched to burning batty boys

it's a lot more fuel efficient
I feel guilty for laughing out loud at a joke about something so disgusting and horrible :(

I'm pretty chuffed myself :)

We could chant down babylon as some dude more famous than myself once said?

But chanting is just words, and actions are worth more than a thousand words, and anyway chanting would just lead to noise pollution and frustration and hoarsethroatation

Burn it anyway and blame it on the bakras! SORTED.

*puts on tam, picks up matches and gans to work*

this sounds so wrong coming from me :D :D

The Americans in Iraq have built a helipad on the ruins of Babylon, bulldozing a lot of it, and the tracks of military vehicles and the vibrations from helicopters have destroyed a lot of what was left - time for the Rastas to celebrate Rumsfeld in song? ;)

Babylon was in ancient Iraq and the whore of babylon is no other than the ancient Sumerian goddess Inanna (AKA Ishtar) who, amongst other things, enjoyed dragging sailors out of taverns for wild sex romps.

I like Inanna and really hope that Babylon doesn't burn down, although it's looking like it might.

What I want to know is, why they chose the word 'Babylon' to describe the corrupt world?

Old testament. Based on the rasta perception of themselves as being the 12th Tribe of Israel

In the 10th century BC, The Solomonic Dynasty of Ethiopia was founded by Menelik I, the son of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, who had visited Solomon in Israel. 1 Kings 10:13 claims "And King Solomon gave unto the Queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, beside that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants." On the basis of the Ethiopian national epic, the Kebra Negast, Rastas interpret this verse as meaning she conceived his child, and from this, conclude that African people are among the true children of Israel, or Jews. Beta Israel black Jews have lived in Ethiopia for centuries, disconnected from the rest of Judaism; their existence gave some credence and impetus to early Rastafarians, validating their belief that Ethiopia was Zion.
