Get it and sit in your bedroom and take oodles and oodles of trashy pickees of your feet, bits and bobs...whadddeva takes your fancy...don't be precious about the pictures...jus snap away and be murderous on deleting the pap and it'll get you into the swing of things...I reckon after about three days or so of snapping as much as you can possibly stand you'll get it...take the thing out only to take "the" picture and you'll find it possibly overwelming because of all the Options...jus snap snap SNAP away, try taking pickees in as many varieties as you can be bothered to and delete delete delete and use the manual to confirm, and possibly advise you how to remedy problems you come up against, rather than a Bible that "instructs" you how to do it and eventually the thing will become very easy to use.

aha, this may be handy :D

you've jus made me listen to The Scorpions...live in Tokyo '78...TWICE!!!!!

...nah!, leave the reading till you get past the pratical doinge bit.:D

Oh and get a case for the cam(Krumpler are nice and sturdy)...check out the spec to see how the camera batt is charged "on board" or with a separate charger http://www.batterylogic.co.uk/uniross-digital-camera-Universal-Li-Ion-battery-charger-vc102216.htm ..doesn't hurt to be able to have and do both...a backup batt IMHO is essential...:)

No idea who or what the Scorpions are or why I've made you listen to them. :D

A leather case comes with the camera in this deal

http://www.ukdigitalcameras.co.uk/product_info.asp?prdID=3184

So I need to get an extra battery definitely, some discs (which take video recordings and can play on my DVD player)

What about a recharger?

Minnie_the_Minx said:
shit. I KNOW it's rechargeable, what I meant to say is is the recharger supplied or have I got to buy that as well?

Power is supplied by a powerful NP120 3.6V 1950mAh lithium ion battery, which should be good for about 500 images (CIPA standards) before a recharge is necessary. Recharging the battery will take about 4 hours. To charge the battery, the camera should be connected to the AC power adapter through a separate terminal adapter. The latter also serves as the main link between your camera and computer USB port or printer, or when connecting to a TV. The whole array of cables looks rather untidy, but its main aim is to supply power to the camera when performing tasks such as direct printing or image transfer. We have to admit that other manufacturers have found a more elegant solution for this.
...ask in the shop/operator when you place your order...some suppliers do "packages" that come with extras you may need on top...but as an option because sometimes already coz you may have other kit.

preemptive strike::::: grrrrr:mad:
As well as the user's manual, a printed Quickstart Guide is included for those who can't wait to go out and use the camera straight away. Software comprises Fuji's own Finepix Viewer for MAC and Windows, a RAW file converter- which incidentally is of no use to F11 owners as the camera only records JPEG images
No you can't use RAWmmmkay!:D

I have a dead reed warbler to snap now... back inabit.

Ah, so I don't need to buy recharger. I knew that, just forgot as I was looking at so many cameras I started forgetting what had what. :o

As for the rest of your post, as per, I'm totally

Rawmmmkay?

I don't even have a computer (except at work) and our office is strict about what software we can stick on.

Am worried sick about something going wrong with memory card and losing everything :o

Get one of those little usb-card readers. You can download your images directly without any other software. ;)

A spare card really is a very good idea. It may be a rare event but card-zapping is far from unknown. A student did-in one of my Nikons yesterday!

I wanna ball my eyes out. This is getting confusing :(

er, how do they work then? Where, how, er.... explain. Where do the pictures hide on my computer exactly? So it'll be no problem viewing them at work? PS: It has a USB cable if that's any help?

I really do need an Idiots Guide :o

Something like this, although there are a whole lot of variations. :)

http://www.fotosense.co.uk/Lexar_Single_Slot_Multi_Card_Reader.asp?productID=126&tabID=4

Just see that it is compatible with your card type. XD for Fuji's, not all are.

I got one of these last week for £4!

http://www.fotosense.co.uk/Olympus_...der_Storage_Device.asp?productID=1361&tabID=4
It works fine, even with the new-style 1gb cards. :)

Just plug-in your card then plug the device into your usb port - The pc will open-up a directory with the images & you can view them directly or save them to disc - default is usually the "my pictures" folder.

Whatever image-viewing software is on your PC will open them, as will your browser etc for viewing-only. :)

Connecting the camera via its USB cable often needs its driver software as well. This avoids installing extra copies completely.

You could become very unpopular if you fill up your work computer with your private photographs. You evidently have internet access or you would not be reading this so sign up to a photography website like www.pbase.com or www.flickr.com or even www.photobucket.com. All of these will let you have a free account up to a certain volume of pictures before you have to pay. Pbase will let you keep uncompressed pictures and allow them to be displayed in a choice of smaller sizes.

You can upload your photographs directly from your camera via the USB port on the computer and then to your chosen photo website. The website gives you a Browse window and you will have to find the drive on your computer which is actually the camera. It takes a couple of minutes per picture so you will need to do it in your lunch hour or when you are not supposed to be working.

My work is very strict about what we're allowed to have on our machines. We can't even install Flash etc.

Luckily my sister has a computer but I only see her fortnightly so I'll have to sit there itching every fortnight til I can use her machine I suppose - at least 'til I figure out how these flickr and photobucket websites work

hum, they look like they could be handy. Have ordered camera alread so no turning back. Although it's not my birthday yet, I'll have to open it and have a go... just to make sure things are all in working order ;)

My work blocks access to these sites - you may want to check MtM.

On the plus side, it means I can avoid seeing any particularly  images and getting Urban blocked too ;)

Believe me they are! with too many students looking to borrow too few cameras or bringing-in images on a variety of cards, they are very useful indeed. Also, with a few cards per camera, I can pack-off one student with a card & reader whilst the next one goes off with the camera & another card.

I recognise all those sites and I'm sure there's some I can't get into. Having just done a search on Flickr, it looks like I can view Flickr, but whether I'd be able to do anything else I'm not sure.

It's like I am able to view ebay, but I can't register or use it :(

Register to it (if you can) then find a picture of a kitten from the web. Download that to your computer and then pretend it's a picture you took yourself, and up load it to flickr.

If that works then you can do the exact same thing with your photos once they are on your computer.

oooh, the excitement. My camera's just arrived at work :D

There's loads of cables and stuff  :D

This is gonna be fun.

(prays nobody else gives her any work today)

hmm, wonder if they've supplied wrong cables or something. Having difficulty putting terminal adapter into the terminal adapter connection socket on teh camera.

*scratches head*

Expect that to take bloody ages, normally takes a long time for the first charge cycle.

Apparently four HOURS, and it's only had 5 mins so far as I had to leave the office for a few hours.

Looks like I'll have to wait 'til I get home to play with my new toy :(

I'm very intimidated by it and the instruction book though :o

IME, Fuji instruction books are well into the "clear as mud" school of technical writing.

suggest you find the reset-option first!

Good Luck! :)

Clear as mud my arse!

Have managed to set the date and time, although I can't seem to make the "am/pm" change to what I want. Very strange.

Have just been outside for a ciggie break and video-ed (how the fuck do you spell that? ) traffic :o.

Have taken some piccies of my keyboard as well. That's about all I've managed so far :D

Oh, and I've managed to take a black and white picture. Then it took me half hour to remember how I'd done that and get it back to colour

Don't think I can use Flickr as it looks like you need a Yahoo account

Here's a photo for you though

pogofish - my sister showed me a USB card reader at the weekend. Didn't fit in my camera though. Are there lots of different types?
