I was speaking from the context of the OP alluding to changing ones identity, i.e. ones self-identity. Of course identity cannot be reduced to self-identity...
 
We may not be very different, but we are individuals. We all construct our identities via our own unique set of personal experiences.

So it wouldn't be a true identity then, it would be an influenced one. I'm confused with this. Social and innate maybe.
 
the 'self' has the property of elusiveness much like knowledge does

it seems very real and obvious at first, but when you start looking at it close up, it disappears
 
i think the representation of 'self' which is most directly present to awareness, is the power of self-control

i can control my hands, but i cant control your hands

that is, most fundamentally, what gives me my self-identity
