Ideas needed for a long weekend in November please

If it's later on in November, why not try Germany for the Christmas Markets?

I took my daughter (15) to cologne last year for the christmas market
it was great
affordable travel via brussels on the train (i'm london based so thats easier but you can fly in too and the train is half hour to city centre)

there were six markets and it was a real buzz just walking round

and affordable eating and hotels
there were some good boutique shops for birthday shopping
and there is a great spar on three levels that was fairly cheap iir and v luxiourious and relaxing - we could even swim through into the outdoor winter night in heated water

Not sure what I'd be like navigating a canal boat though!

You couldn't navigate yourself to a pub called "The Station", in spite of it being about 10 metres from the train station, never mind navigate a canal boat :D

I'll come to Amsterdam with you, I'm sure I could show the teen a few nice cafes to spend time in :D

so whats the decision moomoo? its only 6 or 7 weeks away

I've no idea. :(

Bring a friend / don't bring a friend.

Bring the boys / don't bring the boys.

Do it in November / wait till the better weather.

Risk spending the money now / wait till I get a job.

And so on...........

I'm considering a long weekend somewhere nice as a treat for the teens 16th birthday in November.

Paris is doable but last time we went there they were very sick so they'll probably not want to go again, Rome looks a bit pricey. Any ideas of somewhere interesting that's doable in a weekend?

Not bothered whether it's here or abroad but want to spend minimum time travelling.

Any ideas? Oh, and a decent travel company would be good as well if appropriate. Thanks.

You could get a cheap (Ryanair?) flight to Porto. Stay in an inexpensive hotel in the centre of the city and just mooch about.

You could then do the touristy things and, depending on the the weather, sit on the beach a bit too.

If you decide on this option remember that Marmite is exchangeaable currency within the ex-pat community.

(If you decide to do this drop me a PM and I'll see what is on for you, I could possibly find you a good, inexpensive hotel too. A friend of mine is coming over about that time and has got Ryanair flights for about 80£ return, for four people)

WELL, moomoo. Where you going?!

I'm coming back to London in Oct to see my family and friends for a week. I'm dead excited! Cant keep still, me.

Probably no where now madusa as I'm too scared to book anything in case the company goes bump.

She has been to Barcelona but is quite keen on showing me that and also likes the sound of Amsterdam so I'm going to keep my eyes out for a deal through a decent travel agent. :)

Awww, are you looking forward to coming back then? :)

If you go to Dam would you go to a coffeeshop, moomoo? :D There is a lot more to the city than smoking, but still...when in Rome! lol

Yes I'm sure you can get a good deal if you look around.

I am looking forward to coming back. My family are organising a belated birthday do so that should be ace, plus I have to see a boy............. :o

Not with my teenage daughter, no! Anne Franks house, canals and tulips is all I'm afraid. She did mention ladies in windows and how we'd have to be sure not to go down that road by accident as well. :D

I'd really like to get someone to have the boys and take her away on her own. Plus it would be cheaper.... :hmm:

take her by herself - you'll have a special time together

oh and go now - as she gets older she might not want to go with you

We're coming to London. With the boys.

So we'll be doing touristy stuff like the London Eye, Natural History museum, Madame Tussauds and the London Dungeon I would imagine.

*weeps*
