ID cards 'will hit cambridge hard' say

At some point, some kindly moderator or other will get sick of derf and his trollish unpleasantness and give him the push. And the sooner the better.

A troll would be someone that put forward an argument that he didn't believe in.
I do believe that ID cards are a good move and will have no effect on any uni.

I do believe that some people are ubfit to be allowed to live in the UK (and most other places). This would not be based on colour, race, gender, sexuality or whatever else but if they have a reasonable reason to be there and if they behave themselves while in the country.
I understand that there is a home office move to grant many illegal workers in the UK leave to remain if they have taken part in no other crime while in the country. I would be tempted to agree with that idea with reservations.
If I commited a crime here I would be dumped in prison and deported at the end of my time. I have no reason to argue with that. Sounds fair to me.

I'm guessing that you are happy to fit the word troll to anyone you dn't agree with.

Of course they will have an effect on Universities, allready new procedures are being brought into place to deal with the scheme, that is an effect.

I work with International students, and although a lot come from countries that have far worse civil liberties records - where they allready have ID cards and secret police others don't. Personally I wouldn't go to America becuase of the fingerprint scanning on arrival. There must be other people like myself who in turn would not now come to study in the UK becuase of this scheme.

Why not the US because of fingerprinting?
I would have no problems with it as I've never done anything to worry about being fingerprinted. Handy really as I have been fingerprinted for my visa here.

There may well be others like you who are paranoid about big brother but I suggest that the UK is better off without that sort anyway.
That or you are guilty of something you don't want to mention.
Still when UK ID cards are introduced for all I'm sure the police will find out.
Quick cross check unsolved crimes with the database will shorten the list of the former.

Be afraid, be very afraid. :D

heres a question for the conspiracy theoryists - will the royal familiy have to have ID cards and will they be put on the database :D:D

The Royal Family are already very closely monitored. I think if the rest of us get monitored the way they are we really would have something to worry about!:hmm:

I was struck by this report. Apparently if ID cards go ahead, people like Madonna might leave the country.
fashionable celebrities said:
Campaigners fear that this will put off celebrities like American singer Madonna from setting up home here and so damage the cultural life of the nation.

In a letter to The Daily Telegraph, a group including author Philip Pullman, musicians Neil Tennant and Brian Eno, campaigning QC Baroness Kennedy and comedians Mark Thomas and Lucy Porter, warn of the damage to Britain's image abroad.

Footballers, such as Manchester City's £32.5million Brazilian striker Robinho, would also have to carry ID cards if they came to the UK after today.

The letter says: "If this scheme is continued ... fewer of the world's leading performers in every field will choose to make their homes here than do now.

"Successful foreigners such as Robinho or Kevin Spacey, and the overseas students who subsidise our universities, have a lot of choice where they study or exercise their talents. Some will decide Britain has become too unfriendly."
I don't know if Madonna lives in Cambridge, but it's still quite serious!

I fear having to prove I have nothing to hide. People should be free to go about their lawful business without interference from the state.

PS Cross-matching will throw up lot's of false matches and waste huge amounts of police time. Your living in a technological fantasy land.

End of.
