ID Cards - Tool of oppression?

Magistrate: Mr Foggypane, you have pleaded guilty to the offence of not carrying an ID card, and I sentence you to a fine of five hundred quid. Do you have anything to say?

Me: Yep. Are you sure you have the right man?

Magistrate: Yes I am, why do you ask?

Me: Well, if you're sure of who I am, why the fuck do I need an ID card then?

Any lawyers out there tell me if I'm missing something or the govt. are?

Multi Agency Stop Check:- The police block off a road and stop every vehicle.
Every vehicle and occupants is checked by a the police, the vehicle inspectorate, whatever the benefits agency is called now, immigration, customs and exise ect.
Currently people who cannot readily be identified are sometimes detained if any of the agencies is suspicious of them.

So, they do these, and you reckon that they work well, in terms of catching people in dodgy cars, wanted people, illegal immigrants, benefit cheats (god this sounds very Daily Mail!) etc.

They do this without ID cards. So why spend billions on bringing them in, when we clearly have managed without them all this time? What's the point? It won't stop terrorists, that's already been demonstrated several times. It will just cost the country (i.e. us) lots of money, and will give officious cops more excuses for harrassing people that they don't like the look of.

They are a bad idea.

.

They work very well and are cost effective. (They are not used often though).
They have also caught substantial amounts of drugs being transported.

I have been working on a new site

(appologies if this counts as advertising)

http://www.mmscharlesclarke.com/

the plan is simple, anyone with a camera phone can use it. If you see charles clarke take a pic and email it to the site where it is instantly uploaded. We create a constant online database of the buggers every move, what he eats, where he goes everything.

See how he likes a faceless organisation following his everymove, invading his privacy and collecting data on him?

Plan is to launch the site soon. Fingers crossed.

;)
