Ibrahimovic for Eto'o?

That's massively skewed by his years in Sweden and at Ajax. Everyone and anyone can get 50 goals a year in the Dutch league, FFS even Kuyt was top-scorer in the Eeresdivisie.

I dislike imbrahimovic. Good player but never understood why everyone wants his dick in thier mouth.

I think it was more then a bit telling that barca shipped him out after a season. Just too slow for the way they play. Italy is the right place for him.

As for best of recent memory, no way no chance just plain no. He is no batigoal!

I dunno, he is great but he seems a bit too much of an ego merchant - in his year at Barcelona, once it became obvious that he was nowhere near the best player at the club he seemed to get worse and worse up to the point that he had to leave. Probably the best illustration of this - it was as if each and every bit of absolute genius from Messi made Ibra look even more of a fool and he ended up just ambling around until he was allowed to take a penalty (which Messi had won for him).

Messi is a genius  He'd make anyone look like a fool tbf.

He plays a crucial role in the first goal, opening play out to the wing with a killer pass.

2nd goal he gets himself into the perfect place for Messi to square it to him, but Messi is such a little genius that he doesn't even need to :D

He does look a bit "plodding" after that, perhaps unfit ? He fell out with Guardiola around then so I imagine there may be a bit more to it than meets the eye.

The thing is though, he brings others into the game through his movement, you never know whether he is going to drop deep, play off the last defender, or stretch them out on the wing. It gives a strike partner like Messi acres of space to exploit.

Eh ? His scoring record was under a goal every other game back when he was in Sweden and Holland. If anything his scoring record improved since then.

Seems like my instinctual dislike of all things Swedish got the better of me. Still, he's not shit, except as a person.

He isn't that slow at all really Dave. Some of his goals he outpaces some very good and quick defenders. He can seem somewhat casual at times and perhaps a bit sulky when things don't happen for him, but for such a big guy to have the technique that he does is exceptional.

I'd certainly have him up there with Batistuta, Ronaldo, Bergkamp, Henry, Vieri etc for strikers of this generation. Messi is just different class though, perhaps the best ever ?

tbh It's pretty obvious he loves himself just a bit :D Not a patch on someone like Cantona though, now there is one truly overrated arrogant cunt.

Much as I loathe ManUnited I've gotta say that Cantona is one of my fave midfielders ever. At least the guy's got a modicum of brains.

Cuntona's cod philosophy bullshit doesn't fool me. He talks utter nonsense and tries to pass it off as all "deep".

despite the fact he scores more goals then anyone else in the history of football i still am loathe to call messi a striker. Fuck knows what i call him though. Small foward maybe, but then its just getting all a bit basketball.

Drew he isn't slow slow but to play upfront at barca you need to be road-runneresque really.

Oh and is bottom of the list in your post directed at me by a country mile. Add Raul, Tristan, drogba and a few others to the list before him as well.

Good striker but just nowhere in any greats list

Tristan ? Drogba ? Now I know you're taking the piss :D

Zlatan makes Drogba look like Heskey ffs

Agree with you re Messi, he's definitely not an out and out striker, but somehow still manages to outscore any strikers he plays alongside.

In that game he had missed a hatful of sitters, admittedly all of which (one was just before the second goal) were left out of that highlights clip. As for his movement, it is good but it is less good than what Messi already has with the likes of Pedro, Iniesta and now Villa roaming all over the place, or would have had with Eto'o if the deal hadnt taken place.

I should add that he is quality, but he does seem to be the sort (like Drogba can be, and we are seeing Kaka become) of player who really has to be acknowledged the focus of a team for him to be at his best, and of course to be in the mood (which admittedly he hasnt been that often when I have seen him, though he was very good in the first clasico last year). At Barcelona he just looked a bit lost, then a bit shit, and finally fell out with people who he should have realised he should never have fallen out with if he wanted to stay there.

Tristan was a god to me.

Nah he was pretty average...18 months of brilliance then got completely found out and then fell away. Kanoute is better than Tristan.

Ibra's record speaks for itself...everywhere he's gone he's scored goals. He's quality for sure but i'd put him at a Patrick Kluivert level, on his day utterly unplayable with a first touch that could put Brazilians to shame. But also a moody so-and-so who won't bother to expend energy to get into a game more.

Can I just say I signed him in Champo 00/01 when he was a teenager playing the lowly leagues of Sweden, and he (along with the likes of Joe Cole and Gavin Holligan) became pretty much my greatest player in my 16 year managerial career.

Even now when I hear his name I shed a paternal tear of pride, knowing that I found him first.

I rated Eto higher at the time but now rate Zlatan higher. The strangest transfer until Carroll's move to Liverpool.
