IBM Thinkpad ultraportable X30/X31/32 owner's club

Just get a £10 USB2 PCMCIA card off of ebay if you're that fussed, that's what I did for my T23 Thinkpad.

I've got a couple of those, but they stick out the side and, for anything interesting, need external power.

Not a great problem in the scheme of things, but...

I have a wireless card sticking out of a older laptop, its far cheaper than buying a new laptop just for wireless.

You can also change the NIC if you are really that bothered. Just ensure that you get the right model/chipset and you are flying with internal wireless. On an X30 I went satellite/gps tracking via wireless. My mate drove from London to Southampton and back and the battery had about 5 mins left when I returned to my house.

The X60s though. Man, something else. Gigabit Ethernet ffs!

I would have been tempted by the X300, but they're soooooo damn expensive (thanks to the 64GB SSD)

A 13.3'' 1440x900 screen would kick arse. I'm considering slumming it with the 11" Sony instead.

The battery on the X31 will destroy the Eees!

Times of around 4.5 hours are not uncommon, even longer with the extended battery.

Not on yours it won't. Is the X31 owners club still alive and kicking?

I'm amazed you went through this, you must know better by now!

I hope you do, but don't hold your breath eh.

I don't buy anything I haven't seen, or tried out anymore.

The Eee still looks mighty appealing... :)

if you mean will he get the money back, yes he definitley will as long as he goes through all the right procedures.

If you mean buying an X31, why not? :) (Cos I'm considering getting an X60s)

"Know better" in what sense? I bought a cheap laptop from someone with a 100% rating on eBay and - hopefully - I'll get a full refund.

how many reviews out of interest? and who is this buyer? so I tell anyone who buys from ebay to avoid this seller .

I'm not slagging off particular machines. So when you finally get round to buying something remember to keep us all informed...

Let me wait to see what happens re: refund before I start posting his name up all over t'web.

Yes but I try it out first in a shop, then buy it cheaper online.
That wouldn't have made any difference in my case. None at all. I knew exactly what the X31 was like.

Right I thought this was a discussion forum, sorry if I've been boring you with my indecisiveness....

I think you'd be a bit mad to fork out so much for the X61 if you're just looking for a small, light, carry-everywhere machine (and you were considering the Eee which has the power of a stunned gnat in comparison).

I still reckon the X31 would be fine for the things you've described and it's cheap enough for you to not be precous about the thing. It certainly seems better value than the just released 9" screen Eees which offer a smaller screen, far less battery power for a load more wonga.

I'm not forking out loads that's kinda the point, (;)) I think (now :D) the thinkpad's portable so if I could get it I'll be laughing. if i don't then I'll wait for the atom EEE. :D

Nah, if people are bothered enough to leave bitchy comments, I'll take it elsewhere. ;)

If you're getting an X61 cheap, can I have one as well please? ;)

Yer I thought I was gonna(the x60s)...then it went up by a hundred quid in the final minute  so my snipe at 305.01 quid was out. :(:D

I couldn't afford the extra £74.99 so missed it...aaah well. win some lose some :)

The X60s is a good machine it's basically the X31 but a newer spec dual core etc. Off on hols for a week so will have a think when I get back and see if theres any news on the atom EEE (with better batteries!!)
