ian brown is 40+, so i think he's had plenty of time to change since school. and going by interviews i've read/heard with him, and looking at his backing band, i doubt that there's any racism to be found there...

Some of his best percussionists are Asian.

In fairness can you not say the same thing to Dubversion with the "Reported Post" bullshit thats designed to wind IS up?
I hope you're not suggesting that there is any bias involved?

That's funny, because I used to see them both on the bus in Altrincham nearly every day, and neither of them were like that.
Oh sorry. You must me right and I must be wrong. Because you saw them on a bus.

I never suggested that John Squire was 'like that'. He wasn't.

I voted 'not crap' - although after V99 I wouldn't go out of my way to see him live again.

I haven't gotten around to buying any of his albums since Unfinished Monkey Business, but reading this thread makes me feel like going out and getting a copy of Solarized.

I liked Unfinished Monkey Business, then the one with FEAR was ok - not as good as UMB.

Haven't got round to buying Solarized yet - don't think I'll bother.

I like his music, UMB, Spheres and Solarized are all top albums, I listen to him alot and rate him for doing his own thing

Too shite for words.

My ex-husband went to school in Manchester with Ian Brown and John Squire.

Brown was a skinhead with a crombie and an NF badge and went round trying to intimidate the Asian kids.

Oh for fucks sake... there weren't many school kids like this in the 70s were there?!!

If I have to start judging musical artists on what they're like as people, there aren't going to be many left that I'll still be allowed to listen to...

Ian Brown - classy music for classy people

That's right dear. You wouldn't know about it.

<waves at kyser>

Didn't Ian Brown follow the Angelic Upstarts around the country lol?

Some of my skinhead mates had NF badges.

It was pretty normal in those days.
Oh that's all right, then. :(

I must be getting some cuddly bunch of jack-the lads mixed up with an organisation for violent racist, fascist thugs. My bad.

Go away... you're derailing the thread. This a music forum.

I was behind him at the checkout in The Unicorn organic vegetarian shop in Chorlton .. a place to be respectful in and that's it

thats one place i'd love to start a fight in.... seriously a big fuck off soil-association approved punch-up - parsnips everywhere

I don't care what he was like 30 years ago either. The man's married to and has a child with a Mexican woman so I hardly think he's a closet racist.

"You Can't See Me" was a top tune, has he managed to rope Mani and Reni into working with him on any tracks on the later albums?
