I was at Luton Airport last night...

Electric van starts fire. I assume the family were without contents insurance
It says in the article they don't. I did wonder if they could claim damage to the house off the van insurance since the van caused the fire but I would lay good money there are weasel words in the policy to prevent them doing such a thing.

We are flying out to Santorini Friday morning, but for once not going from Luton where we always seem to be flying from these days.

The could have referred to buildings insurance as opposed to contents, but I assume the housing association took responsibility for that.

I fly from there tomorrow :hmm:

without knowing where you're travelling from and what your plans are / were, but...

i understand flights have started again, although today's issues could balls up tomorrow's operations.

there's a lot of car parking at and around luton airport (there's a few car parks far enough away to have shuttle bus services) even if one car park is buggered.

if you're travelling from london, there's coaches (national express or green line - both from victoria but the latter's across the road from the coach station) that pretty much run 24/7 and go to the bus station just outside the airport terminal. green line said they were back in to the bus station about lunch time today.

thameslink trains also have a 24/7 service, connecting at luton airport parkway for the 'DART' (monorail sort of thing - costs extra) to the airport. the latter is currently reporting that it - and all flights - are currently suspended, which may be out of date. there are ordinary buses about every 10 minutes daytime (and less frequent 24/7) from luton station interchange and a short walk from parkway station.

can go in to more detail if any of this is any use to you.

Thanks, that information is very kind of you to provide

I live next to a thameslink stattion, so I'm hoping I'll be able to get the train up there (I've been there a few times before).

thameslink website says the DART thing is still out of action and there are replacement buses running but that may change by tomorrow.

i'm not sure if you can still buy a train + DART ticket from other rail stations - it used to be you could either buy a train ticket to 'luton airport parkway' (just to the station) or 'luton airport' (which included the shuttle bus that the DART replaced.) - i expect there's a similar arrangement with the DART but not sure. i know some people used to get caught either buying a 'parkway' ticket and then having to pay to go on the bus, or buying an 'airport' ticket when they didn't need to.

Alternative is bus route A from kimpton road (north side exit of parkway station) - this is a standard bus route, so won't be more than two quid single, cash and contactless accepted. it runs every 10 minutes daytime, down to half hourly / couple of slightly longer gaps through the night. bus 100 (towards stevenage) also goes in to the airport bus station from that stop, although they aren't all that frequent.

Blimey, I used Luton a lot when my sister lived in France.

On Easyjet, the fecking airport parking cost more than the flights to Nice.

The long stay car park is a nightmare, especially arriving in the dark driving around what appears to be an aviation based industrial estate for fucking ever.
