I think I'm having a crisis

they don't call Bath, the 'graveyard of ambition' for nothing.

You're right, they don't, that dubious title goes to Swansea from the bard Thomas :D

Crikey! I was thinking exactly the same thing!

The question you need to ask yourself is "Where would you like to be in x years time?" followed by "How are you going to get there?"

Ahh, this is clearly the dead end job thread. I've been there and still am in a way. My current job is a temping job. Boy I want to vent my frustrations. I've now done about 5 dead end or temporary jobs and only really liked one because it was in the US and so quite different. But this and the last job have given me no satisfaction. It just astonishes me that some people are able to work at all, let alone be given positions as managers etc. I'm soooooooooo bored but have to stay here to pay my rent and save up to go tropical, leaving work would cut into my savings. This place is so lifeless, we have hideous targets and team initiatives but no team spirit. I try to talk to people but most just ignore me or never make the effort themselves. I have also come to the conclusion that the general public here are just as moronic as in the UK, who are these people who call up, I've never me them in real life?

I'd like a job which allowed me to feel as though I'd achieved something and let me work with people who were friendly and professional, does it really have to be me every morning to be the one greeting people? My last job sucked but I did meet some good guys. Guess we all go through the mill.

I think the biggest problem is actually finding something to aim for. Once you have a goal (getting qualified in a vocational discipline, working in public sector, whatever) then you can make concrete plans. Having done the call centre thing the best thing I'd advise in the short term is to get a job that doesn't involve dealing with the general public on a daily basis.

I think that unless you are doing a job that is conspicously beneficial to society (doctor, nurse, dealer etc) or you are one of the lucky few that can earn a living from being creative then having a Larkinesque take on work is a sign of sanity.

I listen to people my age (mid 30s) on fag breaks having heated conversations talking complete fucking shite about some soul sappingly boring work related topic in language you would have to hear to actually believe and the extent of their corporate whoredom never even vaguely occurs to them. Same type of cunts that have loud conversations on Bluetooth headsets while striding across the carpark. Being bored and hating your job aint all bad.
