How was the course? I know that this must sound a bit pompous but after teaching here for the last few years without any teacher training (120 TELF and a 40 TESOL) I think that I've got it sorted. I can see the kids, adults, teens, I teach getting better and better every year, this is in relation to teaching new groups.
Why are you worried about teaching practice, you spent quite a bit of time in China teaching off the cuff, didn't you?
Do you think the National Curriculum is holding you back?
Having taught for 4 years overseas and then done my PGCE here, now teaching secondary - I can safely say it is a completely different kettle of fish. The basic ideal of being able to engage a class and end up with kids who have learned something at the end of the lesson is obviously the same - but you have to jump through tons of hoops (especially during the PGCE year/inspections etc).
It's always interesting sitting in INSET next to teachers who have been teaching for years and years - they really struggle with all the different things you're expected to do - and the ever changing terminology. Some excellent teachers have received poor gradings in inspections because of silly things like writing notes in pencil etc...
Same here, some of the girls do the two kisses thing which is always too! For my birthday I get bought cakes and wine, wine and whiskey for Xmas, I can't imagine having to be so defensive in my teaching atitudes as I was when teaching in UK.
It is mental that you're being given the third degree over lesson plans and the like. I can't think of the last time I used a formal lesson plan, apart from when OFSTED last appeared. Detailed schemes of work, lots of resources yeah, but lesson plans meh. Good luck with your placement
