I need a new PC game

You need to bounce each tumbler up and down a few times to judge the speed and the sound it makes. Depending on whether it moves up fast or (subtly) slower, it will pause fractionally at the acme and then you press. If you practise for a while, just moving them up and down and noting the difference between the quick and the slow movements and note the slightly different sound, you should get the hang of it.

that. there's a rhythm to it.

I felt bad about the gray prince. poor miserable sod.

Well you can rest anywhere unless there are enemies nearby. And I think there are occasionally places where you aren't allowed to, but they're the exception rather than the rule. It's keymapped to T by default IIRC.

there's already a thread mate but it's pretty old. We could use that though.

I've just finished the dark brotherhood questline and the arena. The skeleton key is cool but, weirdly, you can't keep it when you get chucked in prison. (despite being able to keep 1 other lockpick), never mind.

I'm the same as you. It's quite scary how addictive it is. I had a day off work today, not specifically to play it but that's what I ended up doing. And then, when the other half got home, and I couldn't justify playing it any more, i read about it here. It's quite sad really, but I just can't help myself. :( It is the crack of gaming.

Have you looked into any of the mods are available? Most are rubbish but there are a few gems.

Installed, like it a lot more than last time, although it's fuuuugly compared to the current crop of PC games. Annoyingly I have weird purple textures - a common problem that only reinstalling fixes, apparently.

are you playing it on the PC?

I think it looks very nice on the Xbox but I am new to next gen gaming so maybe I'm lagging behind.

What kind of character are you playing?

I tried installing Morrowind onto my PC yesterday so I could get some kind of Elder Scrolls fix while Big Brother was on the telly. I tried a sort of magicky character but it's rubbish.

yeah. I had a glance through. I'm thinking Vile Lair and Thieves' Den cos the character at the moment is a sneaky arrow type.

I'm already planning the next one. The arena was quite unsatisfying cos nobody could ever see me and I just shot them before they got anywhere near.

I found the Vile Lair and Theives den pretty useful - for the reasons you mention.

I had a stealthy/sneaky/vampire/Archer/dagger using character.

Vile Lair is particularly good if you are a vamp as it has "feeding pens" and an instant cure for Vampirism as well.

If you buy all the kit for it as well, you get an ace set of leather armour and a good dagger too.

Shivering Isles is also great.

If you played Oblivion first it may have spoiled it a bit for you, but I think Morrowind is actually a much better game in most respects. Especially with some of the fan mods that update the graphics etc.

cool. I like getting nice thief / assassin stuff. You can keep the heavy armour you losers. what about mehrune's razor and the knights of the nine? are they worth it?

At the moment it's the black hand hood, shroud armour, akaviri warblade / sufferthorn, bow of flames, ring of the khaajiit, sun ring as the standard kit, but it changes depending on what I've got to do...

I enjoyed that one where you have to kill the vampire. All his mates are going on about how horrible vampires are and I'm sat there thinking "yeah, yeah, I'm gonna come back in about 3 hours and eat you, you idiot." :)

So geeky. :(

Sounds like you are playing a very similar character/game to me!

Yes - I also though that Mehrunes Razor and Knights of the Nine were great as well!

To be honest, I bought all the add-ons for my 360 (except the Fighters fortress one) and enjoyed them all.

The mages lair up in the mountains is great, just as a swanky pad with some cool stuff in. Has a great cellar and a nice garden for ingredients if you are into alchemy.

*basks in the nerdy glow*

yeah, I can see that everything will be added eventually. I think, once I'm bored of sneaking around, I'll restart as a magicky type person too. At the moment, though, I'm having too much fun just breaking into whoever's house I want.

Nobody has much stuff though. Not even the shops.

I might try to kill everybody in a settlement or something....

do you still play it?

A fat Chinese looking Imperial Agent. I got up to Oblivion via Kvatch last night. Don't think I'm quite ready for it yet.

I spent about 5 mins there, got killed, went off and did something else. It was all very red and scary.

That's one of the great things about it, there's so much to do. The AI is the only problem i have with it. The NPCs are just stupid.

I did go back and start a new character specialising in acrobatics and hand-tohand combat on the PS3 version!

I have not played that long as I got distracted by GTAIV and Metal Gear Solid 4, but I know I will return again soon.

I wonder if that might start to annoy me. What I love about The Witcher is that it's very open, yet there's still very much a narrative to follow. You're playing a proper story. It's also a million times better looking, less clunky, and the characters aren't so bloody ugly. You can also get laid (and get to keep a dirty picture of your conquest) - what's not to love? ;)

I'll keep an open mind as Oblivion gets fantastic reviews, but still more impressed by The Witcher thus far.

Although this is all kinda irrelavent as it's PC only.

What's that game coming out later in the summer where you start of controlling a single celled organism and control it as it evolves up to a space-age civilisation / being?

what's it like? I was thinking of something like that... is combat difficult? I imagine you spend a lot of time running away.

Hmm, its hard to tell really as its been the only game Ive played.

I would say to start with it was boardering on impossible. I made the mistake of going straight for the main quest and literally spent days getting past the first oblivion gate. After compleating that I joined the Dark brotherhood and did a few of the quests on that then did the first thieves guild and mages guild too.

I decided I needed money so went to the battle arena and my skills are definatly up on what they were before, with me being able to generally kick some arse, although Ive only just beaten the characters I like to call the ass fuck twins. I also came across a scamp by a rouge Oblivion Gate just out side the main city and killed it with a lot less effort than it had taken me before.

I think its just a case of building up your skills. I do have a bit of a problem with this game at the moment. My partner has suggested I spend a bit more time with him:D

I thought I better join the Mages guild and do all of that one before I continue with anything else as there is a chance you wont get in if your infamey is too high.

Fucking love it.:D

Spore looks like it might be fun. I was expecting it to be an actual online game rather than what its going to be (downloads other peoples creations for you to interact). Saying that it does mean that you wont get your ass kicked by nerds who dont do anything else so maybe its a blessing in disguies :hmm:

Yes. My partner hates the game as well. :D

My thinking is that, if you do the guild quests most associated with your character type then you get lots of cool stuff to play with. As all the monsters level up so they get harder the harder you get then having good stuff is really important, cos it gives you an... edge....

Ah-ha I see

The first thing I had to with the Mages Guild (run around getting the recommendations) was a bit of a crock really. Hopefully it will get better now I have done that.

It is starting to look ace.

You can already download the creature creator demo (or full version for a fee) and the possibilities are impressive.

Of course the inevitable has already happened and half the world is gleefuly making cock monstors, checkit:

Sporn!

:D
