i Mac

I wasn't suggesting that I was. But I'm almost certainly no less productive and I'm definitely several hundred pounds better off and have far better options for repairs and upgrades, not to mention software.

I don't play games.

That wasn't aimed at you UT...

I've only had two mac fail with me in nigh on 15 years, and one was an easily replaced standard HD. Aside from the motherboard there's little that someone couldn't do with a little dexterity and research.

In order of ease of use, for what I want to do with my computer, I rank:

OS X
Windows
Linux (I tried out ubuntu fiesty)

The price differential between all three options is roughly in line with that. After having one for several months, I think my money was well spent.

BTW take a look at ebay and see how much beter macs retain their 2nd hand value.

Take depreciation into account, along with the software included, and the cost differential is hardly there.

I don't have flash at work, but which particular compiz effect are you highlighting there?

Compiz is cute. Mind you, that boingy rubber window thing is cute for about five seconds and then gets on your nerves. In terms of the Exposé-type effects and app and screen switching that you can do though, it's certainly up to or exceeding OS X standards. In fact if you really want to pimp your desktop it's better.

and i bet that cost you a bomb didn't it?

Cheaper, faster and quieter than anything comparable from the PC world when I bought it. Cheaper than a Dell or an Alienware and better cased and constructed than anyone I know could do. Yeah it cost a few quid, but I'm a graphics geek, I don't drive or have a mortgage so it was worth it.

Oh dear............I seem to have started a war!

As all the hardware at No1 daughters college is Mac, I think I will go down that route.

Now I only need to find £1k + ( for the Laptop and iMac)
