I love the Dreamcast

I spent last night getting my Dreamcast out from the further reaches of the dark and dusty cupboard under the stairs. It was in all it's original packaging, carefully put away for the day that I shall replay Shenmue.

That day has come.

I plugged it all in and the console, controller, vmu all seemed to work fine. For some reason my second controller has died and was not being recognised at all, a shame but not a disaster. So as a warm up I had a couple of games on Crazy Taxi and Soul Calibur (both looked and played fantastic). Crazy Taxi in particular was a lot of fun, once I remembered how to do the Crazy Boost. It was a million times better on the Dreamcast than the downloadable Xbox 360 version.

So I put in Shenmue and re-entered the world of Ryo Hazuki. Wow I forgot how great this game is. Ok the graphics have aged a little and the voice acting is still dodgy, but there is a certain vision, an atmosphere and feeling that has never been equalled. I am really looking forward to playing this again in the run-up to Christmas, my old saved game showed that I last completed it in December 2001. Time flies.

"Perhaps they're out" - I fucking love Shenmue  And "Crazy Taxi" soooooo much better on the Dreamcast than the poxy XBox version. I still have quite a bit of Offspring on my ipod and when "All I Want" comes on I imagine flying down streets taking someone to Pizza Hut "Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!"

Mmmmm....our Dreamcast is upstairs I think *strokes chin*

"Perhaps they're out", "I'd better not disturb them" :D

I got a lot of that last night! Had no idea where "the house with the blue walls" was. I'm really looking forward to playing another day tonight.

Hand over the mirror Set up your Dreamcast…or else, your son!”. Now is the perfect time to start playing, it is time.

I'm gonna have to dig mine out. I worked for Sega during DC days, helped on launches of Shenmue, Quake etc. Helped plan and setup their European wide online network :)

Cool job. I still have that Dream Arena disk, and I half thought about plugging it in to my phone socket to see what happened. Quake was actually in the Dreamcast when I opened the lid.

I'd just started Jet Set Radio back in the old days when I got burgled and that was the Dreamcast gone. :(

What was the online game? Phantasy Star?

Remeber really enjoying Dead or Alive, Crazy Taxi, Powerstone and Chu Chu Rocket (aaahh my eyes!)

I only ever played Jet Set Radio Future on the xbox. I presume that was a more advanced version? It had an ace soundtrack anyway.

My favourite Dreamcast game evah... Rez. Probably my favourite game ever in fact. Also had a wicked soundtrack.

Unlike the poor version of Crazy Taxi on the Xbox 360, there's a superb hi-def version of Rez available. It still looks amazing and the soundtrack is as you say, fantastic.

I like playing it with headphones, sat about two feet from the screen. I love the sense of synthaesia it gives me. Might have to play it again soon :)

Level 5....fucking amazing. Watching it doesn't do it justice, you have to play it and be 'connected'.
