I think I'm going to have fun with this one :D

You should ask if he can send some money to pay for your moving costs. Saying you will reimburse him when you get settled in. :D

KellyDJ replies:

Thanks Thomas. I'm very interested in renting your property - such a fantastic price I'd be an idiot not to miss such a bargain

Thomas must be wetting his pants now. He replies:

Thanks for getting back to me,I will be glad to arrange a viewing and
meeting you in person,
However, need to you to know that I just moved to Bristol to take of a
Job so I am currently based and live and work in Bristol and If I have to
arrange a viewing for you, I would have to travel all the way from
London for the viewing and I am sure you realize it is quite a
Journey for me. I have had a few people in past who told me they were
interested in renting my property and wanted me to come over for the
viewing, I came over for the viewing but it all turned out to be a total
waste of time for, because some of them would not turn up for the viewing,
those that turn up were just viewing for the fun of it, they saw the
pictures and wanted to see what it looked like in real life because my house
is well appealing, and some wanted to explain to me that they did not have
the Security Deposit for the house and they would not me to let them move in
Just like that, a few of them were even on Housing Benefits (DSS) which of
course I already told them I do not accept Housing Benefit (Except they can
afford at lease the Security Deposit in Full in Person). For these reasons,
I will have to verify that you can afford the property and you are serious
about my property before coming over from Bristol and that you
are not on Housing Benefits. You would need to locate a Western Union
or Money Gram Outlet close to you,
Then make the Transfer of the SECURITY DEPOSIT AND 1ST MONTH RENT to Your
Friend or Family member (Not to me), then you would get back to me with a
scanned copy of the Western Union or Money Gram receipt copy which I
confirm on Western Union Website or by Calling Money Gram customer Care
line. After the verification, and all goes well, I will give you a call to
confirm a viewing for you. The Western Union or Money Gram Charges would be
deducted from the 1st Month rent.
I would have to verify the Transaction before your Friend or Family Member
or Who you must have sent the money to can go pick up the money.
Many thanks,

KellyDJ replies:

I understand Thomas. How very frustrating for you to be messed around so much. No wonder you want to do it this way.

I can certainly do as you ask. I will make a deposit with Western Union tomorrow in a family member's name. I will then scan & send you the form with all of the details.

thank you.

Just got another one, this time from a Mr David Fortuner:

You do not have to look else where cos i am here now to let you have what you are looking for on gumtree and you can contact me on [email protected].

3 scam responses to my ad - not having much luck am I? :(

So humour me here in my ignorance, but suppose you did this (or claimed to), and sent the scammer a totally spurious docket number...to what extent are they admitting they tried to scam you if they come back and say "Hmm, no such number?".

None at all. Just the pleasure of them getting their hopes up & then come crashing down when they realise their scam hasn't worked

Oh, definitely - please don't think my question was meant to suggest your cunning plan was pointless. Actually, if everyone they tried to scam did this, what would happen is that they'd be spending ages following up scamees, only to hit a dead end each time...which WOULD make a difference.

I was just wondering if there was any opportunity for them to experience any more than a "damn, bastard must have sussed me" moment... :)

Since my last post "Henry" has sent me another 5 emails replying to my Gumtree ad

I sent him a reply this morning basically telling him to fuck off and leave me alone and have just received this reply from him:

I would advise you to write NO WESTERN UNION SCAM on your ad on gumtree.
This way, scammer would know u aware.

WTF

Sounds like very good advice - what a nice man ;)

Scamming on gumtree appears to be rife. I put a laptop for sale on there on Thursday and have had 8 responses to it. Every single one of them have been scam attempts. All of them have asked me to call them but when I say I can't, as I have no credit, they never call me. Some of the emails were fake too cause I hit reply and the email address doesn't exist. One sent a very realistic looking email from paypal saying they'd paid the money into my paypal account but it was pending. They wanted me to send them the shipping reference number first and then the money would clear. Looking at my paypal account there was no pending payment. I reported it to paypal and they agreed it was a scam, have also reported them to gumtree. Can't see what can be done about it though really. I'll have to trudge off to ebay now as it seams I can't sell my wares on gumtree.
